PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Resolute Forest Products (Current) August 2014 - Present
Director of Logistics
Recruited by Resolute Forest Product’s Logistics and Supply Chain Executive Team to join them in the summer of 2014, I was hired as a Senior Commercial Logistics Manager for the company’s US pulp & paper operations, then promoted to Director of Logistics responsible for leading a staff of 25 energetic, dedicated, professionals supporting the transportation, logistics, warehousing, and international shipments activities of Resolute Forest Products with an annual freight spend of @ $500 million while working closely with the Sales and Production Planning teams. Resolute Forest Products produces a wide range of market pulp, newsprint, and specialty papers at 18 pulp and paper mills situated throughout North America (10 in Canada and 8 in the USA) with an annual production capacity of @ 6.5 million tons of finished product. Along with their Florida based Atlas Tissue Paper facilities (Miami & Sanford), Resolute also became one of the few fully integrated tissue manufacturers in North America with the start-up of their state-of-the-art facility in Calhoun, TN in early 2017
Greif Packaging LLC (September 2011 – July 2014)
Production Support Manager: Riverville Mill Facility, Amherst Virginia
Director / Senior Manager of all sourcing and logistics activities to support Mill operations. Responsible for safety, productivity, cost control, optimization, capital expenditures, energy use, operational excellence programs and administration for the Purchasing, and Shipping Departments.
Direct and administer production planning and sourcing of all raw materials, chemicals, energy, MRO and indirect materials to meet production demands as well as oversee procurement activities for capital projects; including leading key negotiations and executing all supply agreements.
Develop and execute logistics strategy to support the transportation of outbound finished products and inbound raw materials to minimize operating costs, maintain high efficiencies, and optimize coordination with the Sales Service functions.
Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation
Director of Transportation: Containerboard Mills and Recycle Groups
(June 2000-March 2011)
An executive in the company’s Supply Chain Organization, I was responsible for the Corporation’s transportation spend of @ $435 million at the 12 manufacturing mills and 30 recycle plants, as well as accountable for the development and implementation of initiatives and best practices aimed to reduce costs associated with transportation for all the Company’s facilities under this “Mills & Recycle” umbrella.
Annualized mill outbound shipments for 2010 alone total approximately 282,000 moves (60,000 by rail, 180,000 by truck,
and 42,000 via inter-modal) or 7.8 million tons.
Recipient of the Company’s prestigious “Chairman’s Customer One: Performance Excellence Team Award” for my Freight
Management & Network Optimization Team achievements in 2005, and again in 2006.
Led a company-wide initiative in 2008 combining representatives from the company’s manufacturing divisions and safety
team personnel, in conjunction with the nation’s Class 1 railways, to develop and implement a rail car t-loading program
complete with a safety training process where we were able to significantly optimize rail shipments and reduce associated
transportation costs.
My team received the Company’s prestigious “Chairman’s Customer One: Supply Chain Excellence Team Award” for the
Above mentioned “Rail Max” program.

St. Laurent Paperboard Inc.
Director of Transportation (February 1999 to June 2000)
Transitioned from the role of VP Recovered Fibre with the company’s secondary fibre division to the increased responsibility of Director of Transportation for the company where I was responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices to reduce costs associated with transportation, warehousing and logistics for all the Company’s facilities while working closely with the Production Planning and Sales teams. Freight expenditure responsible for at the time amounted to $95 million annually (primary mills, converting plants, recycling). Annual mill shipments total 51,000 moves (11,000 rail, 40,000 truck) or 1.54 million tons.
St. Laurent Paperboard was acquired by Smurfit-Stone Container Corp (“SSCC”) on June 1, 2000.
St. Laurent Paperboard Inc.: Fibre Resources Division. Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
Vice President Recovered Fibre (September 1995 to February 1999)
Accountable for directing the creation, start-up, and implementation of the recovered paper fibre procurement and trading
office that would meet the needs of St. Laurent Paperboard Inc.’s raw materials supply for the production of recycled
medium and linerboard at the company’s manufacturing mills and address the need for a comprehensive inbound freight
(cost/supply) strategy.
The acquisition of the Chesapeake mill in West Point, VA by St. Laurent in April of 1997 brought the total fibre
procurement requirements to @ 750,000 + tons (35,000 truckloads) annually.
Implemented legacy projects that included revamping the supply network, grade mix changes to the mill furnish, and
completely restructuring the inbound freight logistics.
Laidlaw Waste Systems d.b.a. Laidlaw Resources, Burlington, Ontario
Director of Recyclables Marketing (March 1991 to September 1995)
I was responsible for the start up development and implementation of a recovered paper fibre procurement office that would
ensure the contractual commitments of Laidlaw Waste Systems to supply 360,000 tons annually of old newspapers and
magazines to Avenor and its consuming recycle content newsprint mills (Thunder Bay, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec)
were met, and that all secondary fiber supply was procured under 10 year long term contracts with suppliers with fixed
pricing over the term. Goals were achieved and mills’ de-inking facilities started on time.
Responsibilities then shifted to organize the recyclables marketing efforts of the Hauling & Recycling Divisions of Laidlaw
Waste Systems across North America where I was accountable for the start-up and implementation of a centralized Sales
and Marketing effort that marketed 800,000 tons of recyclable material annually under this program. Directed a diverse
sales staff located in 6 major cities across North America.
Domtar Packaging Inc.: Recycling Division, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Divisional Marketing Manager (November 1989 to March 1991)
Responsible for division’s efforts in the procurement, selling, and brokerage of the secondary fibre required to be processed
by the company’s four paper processing plants (Toronto, Montreal, Buffalo, Windsor), as well as to meet the needs of the
corporation’s consuming mills.
Approximately 460,000 tons was marketed annually.
Regent Recycling, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
VP/General Manager (October 1985 to November 1989)
Reporting to the President of the parent holding company that owned Regent, I was responsible for increasing the
company’s market share of the volume of scrap metal, both ferrous and non-ferrous, being purchased and processed on
Vancouver Island.
Regent Recycling was a subsidiary of Vancouver based Environmental Technologies Limited (ETL)
Developed/implemented a targeted, comprehensive, annual marketing/purchasing strategy, and created a complete
computer systems and data base to direct the implementation of the marketing strategy, chart its progress, and monitor its
success and shortcomings.
Directed the company’s focus and growth, as a buyer, processor, and broker of non-ferrous metals, recovered paper, and
glass cullett, and achieved a 900% sales growth during my tenure ($360,000 in the first year to $3,300,000 in my last year).
Relocated from Western Canada to take the position and opportunities offered me by Domtar Packaging in Toronto,
Ontario.
Vancouver Island Recycling, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
President / Owner (April 1983 to March 1987)
Responsible for the creation of this new company from the ground up, including all P&L responsibilities.
Developed, implemented, and operated the only municipal wide, multi-material, curbside recycling operation in British
Columbia at the time. Servicing @ 35,000 homes, this recycling program for the Municipality of Saanich was one of only
two such programs of this scale and magnitude in Canada during that period, and was also the first in Canada to include
glass and paper recycling for the city’s hospitality industry as part of its citywide program.
In 1986, the Lieutenant Governor for the Province of British Columbia awarded my company, Vancouver Island Recycling,
the Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Environment for its efforts and “service to the British Columbia Environment”.
In October 1985 I accepted the additional responsibility of General Manager of Regent Recycling. However, I continued to
own/operate Vancouver Island Recycling until March 1987 when its acquisition by ETL was completed.

OTHER INTERESTS:
A source of great pride has been my community involvement in coaching Middle School & Junior Varsity Football for 14 years, 10 seasons as Head Coach, all winning seasons including five appearances in the district’s championship game.
Due to the commitments and extensive travel schedule necessary with my position at Resolute, the 2014 season was my last for coaching football ending with an undefeated season and district championship that year.
