PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE June 2014-November 2015
Deck Cadet- As a Deck Cadet on vessel types ranging from Container Ships, Product Tankers, and Passenger Ships, I spent time working on capital projects with the vessels’ unlicensed deck department as well as standing watch with the ship’s deck officers, while reporting to the Captain and Chief Mate. While onboard I was given the responsibility to execute monthly safety inspections, maintain navigational charts and publications, celestial navigation, passenger operations including load & discharging, and stand solo bridge watches under the supervision of licensed officers. While on deck, I was given tasks ranging from steel maintenance and repair, mixing and painting with two-part paint products, anchoring exercises, line handling, splicing of lines, tank cleaning for the preparation of new cargoes, and traditional sailing exercises. I sailed onboard the following vessel for a total of 334 days:

Internship, United States Coast Guard: Marine Safety Unit, Portland, OR During my time with the USCG, I supported the mission of inspecting foreign and domestic vessels, overseeing drills, repairs and maintenance being conducted at a local shipyard repair facility. In addition, I spent time with Sector Astoria, witnessing rescuing operations from the “Command Centre” as well as the daily routine conducted at a larger base.
