OBJECTIVE Leadership position which will utilize my background in Design, Operations, and Quality to implement continuous improvement principles in People, Parts, Product, Process, and Profits. These are the 5 Ps I use in making decisions regarding change management. To be part of a progressive team the solves problems, reduces costs, and improves the product quality while exceeding customer expectations. CAREER SUMMARY Multiple roles in electronics and electro-mechanical systems including Quality, Manufacturing, Service, Applications, and Design. Supervised technical personnel in several different roles. Served as a bridge between Design and Operations (Mfg. and Service) on New Product Introduction teams and while implementing component changes in legacy products. Performed verifications and validations in an FDA Class II manufacturing environment. Have performed Qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ) on equipment and tooling as well as component changes. Authored work instructions, test processes, and corporate procedures (SPC, ESD, Test Development). CAPA team leader internally and with suppliers that improved profitability while also improving yields, quality, and reliability. Worked for a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award winner for six years in Manufacturing and Design teaching me to use SPC / six sigma, DFM, and lean manufacturing principles to maintain a customer-driven focus. Excellent Failure Analysis skills for electronics, PCB assemblies, and electro-mechanical components and systems. Good knowledge of computer tools used in Design, Test, Quality, and Manufacturing. Experience in capital equipment planning and installation. Certified in Change Management and Lean Six Sigma. Implemented TQM
/ SPC tools in Manufacturing and Service areas. Worked directly with customers and suppliers to solve technical problems and increase yields and product quality. Good project management skills to get new products released on time. Ability to handle fast-paced stresses and multiple projects simultaneously. A driven work ethic and commitment to exceptional customer service. WORK EXPERIENCE Principal Engineer 6/2016 – 11/2016 Central Semiconductor Corp. Hauppauge NY
Discrete Semiconductors
I had a short-term position to improve Failure Analysis capabilities and to implement RMA and Failure Analysis processes. I upgraded some of the mechanical tools used for deprocessing semiconductors, I brought in new chemicals for use in wet-etch deprocessing, and provided root cause failure analysis on discrete semiconductors. I also provided a capital equipment improvement plan for later use by management as budgets were available. I wrote comprehensive Failure Analysis reports for management and customers.
WORK EXPERIENCE Staff Engineer 8/2011 – 5/2016
Skyworks Solutions, Inc. Newbury Park, CA
RF and Power Management Semiconductors
Perform failure analysis on power, mixed signal, RF, and MMIC integrated circuits. Involves troubleshooting and reverse engineering of customer boards, fault isolation, IC debug, use of FA tools to perform detailed failure analysis of components and generate highly technical failure analysis reports. These reports are used for ICAR and SCAR 8-D methodology to drive improvements. For a complete list of tools see SKILLS Section below.
WORK EXPERIENCE Failure Analysis Scientist 10/2005 – 7/2011 Cree, Inc. Durham, NC
RF and Power Semiconductors
Responsible for customer and internal failure analysis studies. Identifying root cause failure mechanisms and initiating corrective action to improve processes and products. Training and supervision of two technicians. Product decapsulation, failure investigations using X-ray, FIB, SEM, IR spectroscopy, CSAM and other on-site techniques. Managing projects for additional analysis at outside FA labs. Complete responsibility for FA studies in the Advanced Devices group. WORK EXPERIENCE Quality Applications Engineer 7/1999 – 10/2005 Power Integrations, Inc. San Jose, CA
Electronics, Components, and Semiconductors
Failure Analysis of power semiconductors at the die level to determine root cause of failure. Applications Engineering at the board level to determine the systemic reasons for device failure. This analysis has included issues such as layout, thermal, circuit design, transformer design, component margins, Safe Operating Area analysis, etc. After the analysis is complete I generate a thorough report that details the root cause of failures and how the customer can optimize the application to improve reliability and quality levels. Customers implementing my recommendations have improved yields and profits.
WORK EXPERIENCE Lead Operations Engineer 11/1993 – 6/1999 Nellcor Puritan Bennett Plymouth, MN
Medical Devices – Ventilator and Sleep Apnea
Managed team of engineers and technicians in performing Production and Service operations on FDA Class II Medical Devices. Performed process flow enhancements, cycle time reductions, cost reductions, continuation engineering projects, new product introductions, authored work instructions, authored company-wide Quality System Procedures, improved products and accessories, improved testing of products, and managed capital equipment expenditures. Write and validate written processes and work instructions. Communicate with suppliers for corrective action. Implement Quality improvements. Develop and validate automated test for ventilator products. WORK EXPERIENCE Design Engineer / Project Mgr. 10/1990 - 7/1993 Zytec, Inc. Eden Prairie, MN
Power Supplies, 100W – 750W
Designed power supplies using Forward, 2-transistor Forward, and Flyback topologies. Did schematic entry, board layout, component selections, prototyping, safety testing, stress / life testing, conducted EMI testing, and Production Qualification testing. Designed battery test station (software and hardware) to support a battery-back-up charger design. Performed MTBF calculations, thermal measurements, and verified design margins. Implemented DFM principles into projects. WORK EXPERIENCE Product Engineer 8/1988 – 10/1990
Zytec, Inc. Redwood Falls, MN
