Fellow in Upper limb and hand under Dr. Pritpal Bansi, Dr. Chris Blenkin, Dr. Kevin Huang and Dr. Trevor Gervais, Royal Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.

RBWH is the largest tertiary referral hospital in Queensland providing state-of-the-art medical care and the best possible outcomes to more than one tenth of all patient services in Queensland, as well as serving patients from northern New South Wales and the Pacific Rim. Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) is a 929 bed quaternary and tertiary referral teaching hospital

The training involved mainly hand and upper limb fractures, tendon repairs, nerve and artery repairs, treatment of wrist instabilities, deformity correction involving rheumatoid hand, interposition arthroplasties of wrist, total shoulder and reverse total shoulder replacements, mini open rotator cuff repair, sub acromial decompression, open and arthroscopic treatment of shoulder instabilities.

In a week, I had one full day elective list and half a day trauma list where I was the primary surgeon, two days of assisting the consultants in elective surgeries, and one day of hand and upper limb clinic.

Fellow in Lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction under Dr.David Liu and Dr.Ray Randle at John Flynn hospital, Gold Coast center for Bone and Joint Surgery Gold coast, Queensland, Australia

John Flynn is a 326 bed, acute care hospital located at Tugun, which is on the southern end of Queenslands Gold Coast. Being at the border of the state of Queensland and New South Wales it receives patients from both the states. The hospital is also attached to Bond University which has a medical school.

The department does about 500 joint replacements a year.

Majority of the work was in primary and revision arthroplasty of Hip and Knee. I had exposure to non navigated and navigated knee arthroplasties, primary and revision ACL reconstructions, meniscal repair and knee arthroscopy, surgical management of subluxation and dislocation of the patella, osteotomies around the knee.

I was allowed to perform primary hip and knee arthroplasties under supervision.

OT list for 4 - 4 days a week and one/half a day of consultation in rooms.

I also had the opportunity to visit Sydney and observe Dr.Craig Waller and Dr. Leo Pinczewski who are the leading knee surgeons.

Fellow in Upper limb and Limb reconstruction under Dr.Minoo Patel and Associate Professor Martin Richardson at Epworth Hospitals, Melbourne, Australia.

Epworth Richmond has 520 beds and is equipped with quality facilities and latest technologies including a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit, 18 operating theatres, Australia’s first da Vinci robotic system, day surgery facilities, catheter laboratories, community care and Hospital in the Home. With over 42,000 admissions, more than 1500 staff members and 1200 accredited visiting specialists, Epworth Richmond is a leading healthcare provider in Australia.

It involved mainly in assisting arthroscopy of the shoulder, arthroscopic stabilization for shoulder instabilities, arthroscopic and mini open rotator cuff repair and arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and knee. Limited knee and hip arthroplasties were done .I was a also exposed to Limb reconstruction using Ilizarov and Taylor’s Spatial Frame, ankle and elbow ligament reconstruction, Biceps tenodesis, Distal biceps tendon reattachment, percutaneous Achilles tendon repair, CTEV corrective surgeries and complex elbow, shoulder trauma and other sports related injuries.

I was allowed to do Diagnostic arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee and Subacromial decompression and acromioplasty of the shoulder, mini open rotator cuff repair, biceps tenotomy under supervision.

OT list was 4-5 days a week. We had weekly radiology meet, monthly MRI meeting on the Upper limb and Journal club and research activities. I also attended the Spina Bifida clinic and gait analysis and Monash University,Clayton,Melbourne.

Junior Consultant at Vagus Hospital, Bangalore. The hospital has 100 beds, a well equipped OT with C arm and laminar airflow. I had Outpatient consultation on all days and used to mainly operate on trauma cases at this hospital.

I have also worked from February 2011 to July 2011 as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at M.V.J. medical college and research Hospital, Hoskote which is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore. It is a 640 bedded teaching hospital I was involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I used to operate twice a week at this centre.

Worked as a Senior registrar under Dr.K.Srinivasan. It is a 200 bedded referral hospital. Work included 6day/week OT and 6 day/week OPD. 2 days/week on call. I’ve gained good exposure in trauma surgery, arthroplasties, knee arthroscopy, sports injuries and pediatric orthopedics.

Independently handling pre op planning and management of fracture fixation of long bones, hand, ankle and foot. Have done diagnostic arthroscopies of the knee. Assisted in Shoulder arthroscopy, bankart’s and rotator cuff repair and shoulder arthroplasty under Dr.Mahesh Reddy. Assisted in Arthroscopic ACL reconstructions.
