I have been in or around the utility business specializing in operations and maintenance for the past 15 years. I’ve been very fortunate to have experience with numerous fossil fuel and combustion turbines. The most recent utility experience was with Alcoa & Brookfield Renewable which expanded my knowledge with hydro power and transmission system operation.

September 2016 – Present Loudon, TN

Maintenance Manager: Loudon Facility

Coordinated and managed all maintenance activities for the facility. This included all

Production and Powerhouse equipment. (5 Natural Gas boilers, 9 Extrusion Machines,

Caustic / Acid Systems, hydraulic Presses, compressors, Water Treatment, Waste water treatment, etc).

Managed 2 Salaried Supervisors and 1 Maintenance Administrator

Managed 6 Mechanical Maintenance, 5 I&C Techs, 5 Pipe Fitter / Welders, 2 Machinists, 2 Building / Grounds.

Managed Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project which reduced the O&M Budget by $250K

Operations Manager: Santeetlah, Cheoah, Calderwood, & Chilhowee

Managed 4 hydroelectric dams and 5 substations that connected with TVA, Duke, & Alcoa.

This included 13 hydroelectric generators generating a licensed 380 MW’s. Managed and

coordinated all activities related to maintenance and operations for the assets at Smoky.

Ensured hydro facilities and retaining structures (dams) maintained remote operation.

Ensured all in-house and contractor personnel followed Health, Safety, Security, & Environmental Procedures.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including FERC, NERC, SERC, NCDNR, TWRA, TDEC, US Fish & Wildlife, & US Forrest Service.

Manage $20M O&M and $30M Capital budgets for Smoky Mountain Hydro & Smoky Mountain Transmission

Work with Water Resource Manager to schedule all generation.

Responsible for coordinating with BEMI to market the power 3 days in advance.

Ensured FERC standards of conduct when scheduling transmission outages.

Managed 2 separate crews which included 2 supervisors, 1 planner, and 24 totally hourly personnel.

Emergency director for all Emergency conditions at Smoky.

Managed numerous projects including: Chilhowee North Embankment Repair, Cheoah upstream Construction Joint Repair, revenue metering, SF6 Breaker installations, Chilhowee Gate Chains, TVA / Duke Tie Line Metering, SEL Protective relays, & Santeetlah Dam Slot Cutting.

Acted as Maintenance Coordinator for both Calderwood & Cheoah crew while performing Ops Manager duties during reorganization.

Implemented numerous public safety improvements at all generating stations and dam structures such as upstream / downstream cameras, warning signs, and audible alarms for remote gate operation.

August 2011 – June 2013 ` Tallassee, TN

Managed 12 hydro mechanics to ensure dam and public safety. This included the reliability and

safe operation of each turbine / generator. Manage evolving operations and maintenance

priorities to ensure regulatory compliance.

Planed and scheduled all maintenance and contractor activities.

Created detailed MS Project to track all maintenance, projects, and FERC required activities.

Coordinated and managed emergency Cheoah Gate Hoist replacement project and coordinated with FERC.

Assisted with Cheoah Modernization project which included the complete upgrade of Cheoah Units 1 – 4.

Managed the following projects: Tapoco relay replacements, APGI Line Metering, & Cheoah Tainter Gate Modifications required by FERC.

boilers (coal & natural gas) with 2 turbine / generators (80 MW’s). Worked as a team with

management and union leadership to initiate the plant retirement process.

Managed 4 Mechanical Maintenance, 4 I&C Techs, & 1 Utility.

Managed plant maintenance budget including capital & O&M.

Managed the following projects: Substation Breaker replacements, barge unloading crane, natural gas conversion, & plant retirement projects.
