Three years of new product design; experienced with agency approvals/audits (NSF, AGA, CGA, UL, CUL).

Proven ability to target and reach project management/product design goals (cost, schedule, manufacturability).

Six Sigma Qualified Black Belt; history of applying tools appropriately and successfully and mentoring other Black Belt Candidates through their training.

Experience working on design, manufacturing and quality issues. Leader of cross functional teams involving design, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and certification.

EXPERIENCE

2012 to 2017 Tarby / NOV, Claremore, OK (plant closure 4/1/17)

Design Engineer

Worked with multi-facility team to establish common procedures for production of ALS stators.

Implemented JIRA program for project management.

Instructed and mentored mechanical engineers on use of Thought Maps.

Assisted in building design and machine layout for transfer of product from Springfield, OH facility to Claremore, OK facility.

Responsibilities include reverse engineering of progressive cavity pumps and design of custom pumps with heavy SolidWorks usage.

Reverse engineered nine sizes of progressive cavity pumps to provide replacement parts.

Worked with inspection to resolve any first article approval issues with new parts.

Designed adapting pieces (suction housing, drive shafts, augers, etc.) to use larger frame drive on smaller pump.

Designed gear joint to pin joint adapters.

Worked with supplier to produce pin joint seals and establish first part approval.

Designed tilting, powered roll table for primer and adhesive application for increased consistency in film thickness.

Designed small core removal press to decrease process time and eliminate damage to cores.

Aided in design of extruder clamping ring with Manufacturing Engineer that reduced set-up and break down time and eliminated issues with broken bolts.

Designed mold tooling for rubber injector that would compensate for variation in stator pipe length and increase efficiency and insure proper capping of mold during curing.

Designed adapter to allow the use of different injection guns for a given style of tooling which gave greater flexibility in scheduling of product.

Designed rubber stator packaging blocks that allowed standardized shipping and protected stator finish in transit.

Designed mold for stator shipping blocks.

Member of Emergency Response Team.

2000 to 2012 Whirlpool Corporation, Tulsa OK

Senior Project Engineer (2005 to 2012)

Typical responsibilities include support of daily activities for the division, implementation of cost and quality projects and providing leadership to other engineers in department.

Designed new coil cooktop to eliminate burner bowls creating a cost savings of $1.2 million.

Redesigned cooktop burner heads to reduce spark gap variation and ignition chamber flooding.

Used DOE’s to develop new spark frequency for cooktop ignition improving system robustness to variation.

Redesigned orifice holders and cooktop to prevent interference with burner heads during assembly.

Combined cooktop projects reduced field service rate to record low and best in class level. Projects presented in 8D format in Whirlpool Tech Forum.

Project lead on HTI latch project (moving current latch motor production to Chinese supplier for $494,000 cost savings). Project used as an example on how a project should be run through the approval process.

As technical resource for door integrity project, provided ‘break through’ concept to design which allowed ease of assembly. Guided and participated in testing of interference fit design which prompted alternate design for assembly.

Responsible for quality improvements in the gas tubing system. Diligence with the supplier, which involved driving proper process documentation and control, produced a 70% reduction in external defect calls.

Project lead on snap-in catalyst project that realized annual savings of $294K. OPEX tools were used to confirm the new catalyst would meet customer expectations. As project lead, responsible for managing technician and designer’s work load.

Served as team lead in modularity study of multiple cooking platforms.

Achieved a ‘quick fix’ for a cast console design issue that allowed division to continue production of product.

Tool usage for projects includes Gantt Charts, FMEA, DOE, COV and C2C process with TDPs (Technical Design Preview)

Project Engineer (2000 to 2004)

Received Six Sigma Black Belt Certification – Certification packet included $4.2M in cost savings.

Project lead on Ceran Vent Integration project (moved vent production in-house); achieved project savings of $2.5M; used DOEs to insure robustness to manufacturing variation and maintain customer required performance.

Responsible for new gas cooktop manifold designed for improved ease and quality of assembly. Achieved a 15% reduction in cracked igniters in service bay, a 7500ppm reduction in broken igniter service calls and 10% improvement in units per hour production.

Led New Model Introduction Problem Solving Team; developed a part tracking sheet and gained Director’s support for same.

Used DOEs and COVs to qualify single bead tubes for production.

Mentored 3 Six Sigma Black Belt Candidates through training.

Led new model line introduction.

Responsible for side panel temperature abatement; activities involved investigation of heat sources and paths with sequential DOE work to manage heat.

Project lead on Side Panel Damage Prevention; DOEs proved value of a back brace concept which reduced side panel damage 50%.

1996 to 1999 The Broaster Company, Beloit, WI

Project Engineer

Responsible for ‘clean sheet’ design of two new hot deli cases. Took project from initial concept, costing, drawing work, prototype builds, testing to production introduction (complete ‘Cradle to Grave’ responsibility).

Responsible for design of an electric version of a gas broiler oven which, when tested, proved to be a superior performing machine.

Designed and prototyped quick marinade machine.

Oversaw agency approvals and audits (NSF, AGA, CGA, UL, CUL)

Developed project signoff sheet to prevent project creep.

Achieved cost and quality improvements on existing products.

Tools used for projects included Gantt Charts, AutoCAD and various sheet metal tools in model shop.
