PROFESSIONAL AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Dr. Sarjeet Gill’s lab, UC Riverside, Riverside CA November 2014-June 2016 Research Assistant

Led breeding of transgenic mosquitoes: maintained the mosquito colony, prepared reagents and assisted researchers in performing assays. This involved refilling sugar water vials, hatching eggs and using a fluorescent microscope to screen the larvae for a GFP marker linked to the modified gene.

Handled and bred mosquitoes with required phenotype and maintained sufficient supply of modified mosquitoes for researchers.

Maintained and cleaned lab equipment, such the decalcifying mosquito colony's humidifier every month.

Gained proficiency in dilutions, breeding and using fluorescent microscopes.

Molecular Medicine Research Institute (MMRI), Sunnyvale CA June 2014

Summer Intern

Assisted various scientists with different research projects and conducted DNA extraction, passaging adherent cells, counting cells, loading cells into wells and completing cell cultures for a variety of cell types grown for different research teams.

Gained experience with the proper use of the following equipment and techniques;

Incubators, Cell culture vessels (flasks, Petri dishes, roller bottles, multi-well plates), Aspiration using vacuum pump, Confocal microscope, Hemocytometer, Multichannel pipettes and Fume Hoods.

Learned lab procedures for Thin Layer Chromatography, Vacuum Filtration, Mass Spectrometry and Autoclaving.

Experienced in proper handling and cleanup of hazardous chemicals
