Upon leaving the position at Hyundai Glovis, I spent a 5-month hiatus traveling in Europe (9/2016 – 2/2017). This was a once in a lifetime chance to fulfill a bucket list item.

HYUNDAI GLOVUS West Point, Alabama 9/2011 to 8/2016

Logistics company headquartered in Seoul, Korea and part of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group.

Operations Manager

Drive lean manufacturing, quality and safety initiatives. Direct continuous improvement through the on line supervision. Insure the upkeep and maintenance of the facility. Monitor and control inventory levels on the 56 separate Automotive Interior product lines. Use strategic thinking in order to position the plant for upcoming changes. Monitor and ensure the Preventive Maintenance schedules are maintained. 5S and Kaizen. Evaluate and mentor supervisors to build strong teams.

Accomplishments:

Tasked with relocation of two operational logistics and sequencing centers to the new 300,000 sq. ft. facility without affecting Kia Motors, the end customer. Created a cross-functional team to devise strategy to break down existing departments, load trucks in the correct order by department and part style. The move had to be accomplished in less than 40 hours. Outlined plan to end customer’s representatives and achieved buy in. By including the KIA Production Control Team in the planning stage, made this a win for both KIA and Hyundai Glovis, solidifying the working relationship between the two companies.

Product comes from overseas via sea containers which are subject to Customs and Border Control inspection. Instructed to make the new facility Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism or C-TPAT compliant and become a certified C-TPAT warehouse. The facility was awarded the C-TPAT Certification and began to bring in overseas product. The entire project was completed with a minimum budget.

The asphalt in the loading dock and truck yard began to delaminate after only three months of use. Contacted the Hyundai Glovis Facilities Specialist and the construction contractor as well as a third party inspection company. This could only be done during a total warehouse shutdown lasting at least eight days. Anticipated and prepared contingencies for possible problems, and the repair went off without issue to either Hyundai Glovis, KIA Motors or suppliers.
