Duration : Jun 2010 – May 2011
Role : Technical Lead
Organisation : IBM Global Services, India
Job Location : Columbus Ohio, USA
Project Description:
Nationwide is a top ten among auto and home insurer companies in USA. Nationwide also deals with Investments and Banking. Claims Solutions is one of the areas of Nationwide Insurance, where claims related applications are developed and maintained. There are more than 40 applications in claims Solutions and needs constant maintenance. Mainframe TCS, Mainframe CPS, CLASS, Horizon, eCCAp, eCIF are few applications in Claims Solutions.
The project intent is to bill and collect Farm Bureau Membership dues for nationwide customers in states where Nationwide has established a relationship and offers a premium discount. This contributes to the strategic transformation imperatives to differentiate the customer experience, drive toward operational simplicity and grow by targeting customers.
Including the Farm Bureau dues with a Nationwide bill will limit confusion and the Potential for multiple nationwide policy mailings. Currently, customers receive a Separate mailing from their Farm Bureau when their membership dues renew. If the Membership dues are not paid, the agent must either communicate that the membership Dues are owed or, the customer’s policies will renew without the discount (at a higher premium). The customer will contact their agent to reapply for the discount and pay their Membership through the Farm Bureau. A change declaration will be mailed to reflect the Reapplied discount. The current state creates an inconvenience for our customers, agents and service centers. Customers may also choose to cancel their insurance withNationwide when their policy renews because they associate the increased premium with A rate change rather than the Farm Bureau removal.

With recent FRC and internal audit findings, the Billing suite of applications has a need to add controls to both our incoming and outgoing flat files that need to be archived for 7 years. With this project the following controls will be put in place for both incoming and outgoing flat files:
Duplicate checking – we will ensure that the file processed today is not the file previously processed. Record count – we will ensure that the number of records received within the file match the record count send by the originating application. Total amount – we will ensure that the total amount passed within the flat file matches the total amount identified by the originating application (for financial interfaces only)

The Campaign Manager feature on the existing system allows the user to set up and run marketing campaigns to the insurance company’s existing customers. However, this feature currently operates purely in a legacy mainframe environment and does not have a provision for a web-based front end UI. Thus, the need here is to create a web-based UI that would support the Campaign Management process, similar to other applications like the Innovation Policy and Business Manager modules which replicate the existing system’s Policy Administration & Business Manager functions respectively.
