Responsible for 125 direct labor employees in a high volume steel fabrication plant. 6 salaried supervisors and 12 non-exempt professionals and technicians. Union plant, 100 UFCW members and 10 IBT members. Balance non-exempt and salaried.

Fabricated coil steel into construction studs and track. Operations included master (mill) coil slitting, roll forming of structural shapes (14 lines), manual shears and brakes, plus warehousing, shipping, and in-house trucking. Serve mid-Atlantic and New England construction industry.

Improved master coil slitting efficiency 15% by introducing new scheduling algorithm and implementing visual reporting and graphing charts. Improved labor productivity by 6%, offsetting rise in wages to net 3% improvement in labor costs. Also reduced use of temporary employees by75% while not hiring additional f/t employees.
