Academic Projects

• Designed die, jigs and fixtures for industrial use. (Software – Inventor, AutoCAD)

Designed die model in Autodesk Inventor to do basic operations for sheet metal parts. Blocks made in the die:

Die block, Punch Plate, Blank Punch, Pierce Punch, Striper Plate, Pilot and finger stop. Converted 3D model into 2D drawings by transferring from Inventor to AutoCAD.

• Researched, designed and built working model of Hydraulic hand pump and Pneumatic Hacksaw with auto feed.

(Software - Inventor, AutoCAD)

Hydraulic pump was designed for the purpose of pumping 1 gallon of fluid per six strokes.

Pneumatic Hacksaw with auto feed was designed and built for the purpose of cutting small metal and wood pieces. Auto feed concept was used to bring hacksaw down on the work piece automatically.

Manufacturing process involved in the project: milling, drilling, welding, tapping, cutting, grinding and filing.

Used the knowledge of pneumatic course to use direction control valves and limit switches to control the stroke length of the cylinder mounted on the top of hacksaw. 3D model was built in Inventor and 2D drawings were created in Autocad.

• Designed series-parallel pipeline system calculating major/minor losses and horse power required. (Software - AutoCAD)

A series and parallel pipeline system was designed to supply benzene from the underground tank to the exit point above earth surface. I calculated all the major and minor losses due to friction, valves, bends, filter, pressure inside the tank and fluid density, also calculated the required pump power to maintain a desired continuous flow in the system. 2D drawings were made in AutoCAD to represent the schematic diagram.

• Power Generation using Rankine Cycle and its modification to increase efficiency.

I did modification experiments in Rankine cycle to improve the efficiency of its power generation.

Used open feed water heater, closed feed water heater, reheat Rankine cycle concept and by varying the maximum boiling point and intermediate boiling point.

• Finite Element Analysis project on Metal Plate, Hip Replacement joint and buckling analysis. (Software – Ansys 14.5)

Metal Plate: Normal Stress, Equivalent Stress and Total Deformation.

Hip Replacement: Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation and Fatigue.

Buckling analysis of bracket: Normal Stress, Buckling Load and Total Deformation.

• Aircraft fin spar design and technological process of its assembly. (Software – CatiaV5, AutoCAD)

Designed all the parts used in vertical fin of an aircraft, like: ribs, spar, stringers, rudder, skin, rivets and bolts.

Showed detailed manufacturing and assembly procedure for each and every part.

Showed the usage of the fixtures came in use for assembly.

I used CatiaV5 for the solid and surface modelling of the fin, used AutoCAD for 2D drawings.

• Stress analysis of wings and fuselage structure.

I did complete theoretical stress and strain analysis of the wing and fuselage structure to find out the maximum and minimum stress values and bending moment in different loading conditions.
