Please accept this letter and attached résumé as an expressed interest in applying my experience and education to support and advance your professional objectives.
Most recently as a Analytical Chemist for a pharmaceutical company, I tested raw materials as per USP specifications. Previous to this, as a Laboratory Technician at a global product testing company, I tested and maintained data on a myriad of products from various major retailers.
I recently attended the doctoral program for medicinal chemistry at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNYAB). I completed my bachelor’s in medicinal chemistry in 2013. I was consistently commended by my professors for my ability to study principles of organic chemistry and apply them successfully in solving real-world problems. These initiatives culminated in my being recruited by my research professor for a project that was subsequently published in the Journal of American Chemistry.
As the only undergraduate student in the Jason Benedict Research Group at UB, I worked with both graduate and post doctoral students as well as professors, conducting research to advance the Science of Crystallography. Recognized for bringing innovative thinking and drive to my studies, I am confident that with my dedication I will make a valuable contribution to your organization.
Thank you for your professional consideration. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications.
Sincerely,
Corey J. O’Brien

SELECTED RESEARCH PROJECTS
Synthesis of Chromophores and Titanium Dye Sensitized Solar Cells
Performed laboratory research on dye sensitized solar cells and applied molecular scale information to increase understanding of the charge transfer dynamics. Successfully synthesized and characterized two chromophores used in further research of polyoxotitanates.
Synthesis of Complex Crystals with Enclosed Dye Molecules
Performed laboratory research on complex crystals with large internal pockets. Reproduced this organic reaction with a molecule inside the pocket for utilization in real-world applications. Project procedures and results are pending submission for publication in a research journal.
Macromolecular Synthesis of Morphine
Researched and wrote paper on the primary synthetic scheme of morphine to improve knowledge of chemical reactions inherent in morphine creation. Research involved increased understanding of chiral molecules and the pKa’s of specific groups in large structures.
Selected Leader for In-Class Organic Chemistry Group
Co-led in-class undergraduate student group to solve a complex organic chemistry problem. Problem involved the multi-step synthesis of a large organic molecule and principles of organic reactions, broadening ability in the design of solutions for synthetic problems.
