Advisor / Supervisor / Senior Accountant (1998-2017)

XTO Energy Inc. / a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Fort Worth, Texas

Advisor - XTO Controller's – Non-Operated Joint Interest Billing (2014-2017)

Lead for a group of 5-7 accounting personnel in Non-Op JIB that processed invoices ($30M+/month) from over 150 operators of non-XTO oil & gas properties.

Reviewed all invoices processed by the group before forwarding for final approval (had final approval authority to $10K).

Handled communications with the ExxonMobil Business Service Centers regarding transferred properties, accounts and other activity affecting non-op properties or operators.

Advisor - XTO Controller's – Accomplishments

Directly handled clearing up of the group’s portion of a “Miscellaneous” GL account. Many items had aged over 180 days, some almost at a year. Analyzed, reconciled and identified issues within a few weeks. Within a short period, had reduced the group exposure from $10M+ (over 100 items), to less than $250K (average of about 10 items) with all items aged less than 90 days. Worked with Cash Control and Procurement to create a system for identifying the group’s items, created a tracking system and trained 2 staff accountants to handle the account.

Standardized the new vendor account request process to bring it into line with Procurement Department requirements, standardized the request form and support documents required, enabling a reduction in turnaround from several weeks to 5 business days.

Supervisor - Procurement AP Support (2013-2014)

Supervised a group of 7 – accountants and clerical personnel, that was responsible for verification and authentication of all new vendors and updates to existing vendor records.

Oversight of corporate credit cards: billings, coding review and payment requests.

Direct responsibility for corporate bonds, including processing of bond requests, interfacing with insurance brokers, municipalities and state agencies, obtaining & verifying approvals, invoice payments (including coding and classification) and retrieval of expired bonds.

Supervisor - Procurement AP Support – Accomplishments

Selected to be a member of the supervisory team for the newly formed department.

A member of the department leadership team that rewrote XTO narratives to conform to ExxonMobil standards. Led the AP Support group through an XTO internal review and an ExxonMobil Process & Controls audit. The department received a satisfactory rating from the ExxonMobil audit.

Assigned the processing, record keeping and retention of all XTO bonds after the Insurance Manager left XTO. Created a tracking system, organized the bond files and standardized the bond request and approval process. Trained personnel in multiple departments and district office personnel in the use of the new forms and processes. Trained the group staff accountant to handle the day-to-day activity.

Supervisor - Financial Reporting (2006-2012), Senior Accountant (1998-2006)

Oversight of 4-6 accountants for multiple subsidiary companies of various types (gas gathering, property, gas marketing, including direct responsibility for 2 carried in foreign currencies). This group handled GL activity, including settlement of intercompany borrowing and expenses, journal entries and prepared subsidiary financials. Oversight scope included 2 gas subsidiaries that paid royalties monthly. The royalty processing and payments were handled by this group.

Supervisor/Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting - Accomplishments

Directly handled the XTO corporate GL insurance account (over $10M balance). Analysis of the coverages and preparation of the annual allocations of premiums to XTO oil & gas properties, all subsidiary companies and properties.

Created an MS Access database to generate chart labels and track data on natural gas properties. On one gathering system this database reduced chart label costs by 90% and cut labor by 500+ OT man hours per year.

Accountant / Accounting Manager / Plant Controller

Trailmaster Tanks / Heil Trailer International Ft Worth / Rhome, Texas

The firm is a manufacturer of transport trailers for carrying many liquid and dry bulk products. These transport tank trailers range from frac tanks, crude oil, vacuum, chemical, and gasoline trailers for the energy industry to dry bulk carriers for perlite, cement powder, gypsum and plastic pellets.

Duties over my tenure included all GL accounting, AP, AR, financial statements, cost accounting, Insurance (all lines) purchasing, HR, payroll, taxes (all payroll taxes, FET, sales & use, ad valorem).

Additional areas of responsibility included, administration of the company Profit Sharing program, handling of interactions with Texas Workforce Commission(TWC), and being the point of contact for all auditors (sales & use, FET, TWC, insurance).

Accomplishments include: Working with the accounting staff to establish and document best practices and procedures in all areas. Using advanced Excel skills to consolidate the annual budget process from multiple piecemeal worksheets into a single Excel workbook. Used Vlookups and other higher level formulas and functions including graphs and charts. This allowed rapid revisions of division budgets while at headquarters, minimizing the need for additional trips to review revisions and updates. Applied the same skills in streamlining the capital expenditure requests and process.
