As a leading private hospital, the medical equipment used by St. Vincent’s Private Hospital places significant reliance on digital technology. Y2K posed a significant risk to the hospital both in terms of potentially compromising diagnostic readings or not working at all which carried a patient risk and business continuity risk. I was responsible for ensuring that the equipment fleet was clearly identified catalogued and a risk assessment undertaken of potential Y2K exposure. I continued to take responsibility for ongoing quality control and assurance following the project.
Medical Informatics Officer, Education and Research Centre, UCD - Ireland 1997 - 2000
In 1997 the Faculty of Medicine in UCD acknowledged the need for a Medical Informatics Laboratory to facilitate research and projects carried out by resident medical students, postgraduates and doctors. I was appointed to deliver the project and establish a Medical Informatics Laboratory in the Education and Research Centre (ERC) at St. Vincent University Hospital. I project managed the commencement of the service and oversaw its development and expansion.
