Junior Software Engineer Intern May 2016-Aug 2016

Client: Financial Regulatory Authority (Finra), Rockville, Maryland, US

Description:

FINRA is a self-regulatory organization which regulates member brokerage firms and exchange markets like New York Stock Exchange. As an Intern my task was to get an insight about various DevOps tools used in Finra and to develop a dashboard in Splunk [Integrated Insights Dashboard] by integrating it with SQL Server database. Splunk is a powerful indexing DevOps tool. Updates were reported to Manager during daily stand up meetings and followed agile methodology while working on development tasks.

Responsibilities:

Analyzed and Queried Jira’s data base (SQL Server) to generate Bug report and Time to market Matrices. Bug Report and Time to Market Matrices are critical in bringing in DevOps practice into a project.

Involved in several meetings with Splunk team in Finra to discuss about setting up Splunk indexes on SQL Server so as to enable development of Splunk search processing language (Queries) to develop the Integrated Insights Dashboard.

Developed the dashboard UI design using XML and various visualizations including Pie Chart, Bar graphs, Tables etc. were included in Splunk dashboard.

Worked on Jira to update and view daily tasks set by the Manager. Developed code was committed onto Git repository on daily basis.

A four month training program included extensive hands on training on Core Java, RDBMS and on Data Warehousing using SAP tool. Worked on a data warehousing project with Sysco as client for about 18 months

Responsibilities:

Underwent hands-on sessions for three months in core Java, covering the fundamentals; Variable declaration, looping constructs, conditional statements, class modeling, exception handling, collection framework and Object Oriented Design.

Graduation Project

Implementation of Dynamic Host Configuration Networking Protocol [DHCP-Application layer]

Objective

To set up a Client Server architecture to assign an IP address dynamically when a new device connects onto a network. DHCP uses port 67/68 UDP.

Description

Involved in learning and understanding the principles behind working of DHCP networking protocol and developed a client-server architecture to implement the same by performing the 4-way DHCP handshake between client and server.

Connection between client and server was designed and programmed using Ethernet Cable and its specifications were done using various C programs in-built functions for Altera FPGA on Eclipse IDE.

Performed Ethernet request/acknowledgement frame generation using C program Arrays, IP pool at Server side was done using multi-dimensional C Arrays.

Developed Interrupt Service Routines at Client and Server which responds to incoming data in memory descriptors.

Hands on with Bash Shell scripting and various Linux commands for Process management as a part of learning networking protocols on Ubuntu LTS.
