Oversee the implementation of instructional support services to 1100+ special education students across 32 New York City schools. [This population is comprised of students with learning disabilities, physical impairments, and emotional challenges.]
Attend and contribute to impartial hearings or legally-binding mediation meetings where students’ needs are discussed. Outcomes of these meetings include mandates for specific support services or an acknowledgement that existing services are sufficient to meet state instructional guidelines.
Monitor the implementation of support services at each school, which is thoroughly reviewed and critically evaluated for compliance. Review reports delineating student assessment timelines. Ensure adherence to a 60-day threshold for the completion of comprehensive student evaluations.
Run professional development programs to impart knowledge regarding mandated special education services. Audiences for these events include assistant principals, school psychologists, social workers, special education teachers, and family workers.
Attend and actively participate in Educational Planning Conferences with school administrators, teachers, and parents. These conferences are student-specific to address multi-disciplinary instructional concerns and recommendations.
Supervisor of School Psychologists, 2007 – 2009

Guided the efforts and improved the performance of approximately 50 school psychologists, 25 school social workers, and 25 family workers at 34 schools. [This experience spanned high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools.]
Observed staff and conducted and wrote performance evaluations. Provided professional development and technical assistance to new and experienced staff members. This support included group workshops as well as individualized support to improve performance.
Actively participated in Individual Education Plan (IEP) team meetings to discuss student learning issues. In addition to the presence of a school psychologist, these meetings have included a school administrator, physical, speech, and/or occupational therapists, a social worker, and parents. [When needed, my participation also included English-Spanish translation assistance.]
Evaluated, selected, and authorized the purchase of student testing materials (WISC, WPPSI, BASC 2, and Vineland II and others). Reviewed the quality of written assessment reports undertaken by staff.
Attended union hearings. Deescalated complaints and mitigated employment discord between principals and psychologists/social workers.
