ENGINEERING PROJECTS
Senior Research Project Fall 2016 – Winter 2016
Continued a research grant involving Union College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Ecovative Design
Characterized the mechanical properties of skeletal mycelia using the tensile testing method, devised a mechanism to grip samples without causing a significant amount of contact pressure, 3D modeled and performed FEA analysis of this mechanism in Solidworks, facilitated the manufacturing of the necessary parts, tested the apparatus for effectiveness in finding material properties, presented a written and oral report on findings
Senior Capstone Project: Design of a Factory Heat Exchange System Fall 2016
Given a number of fluid temperatures, specifications on magnitudes of the vents and pipes used in the system, asked to find the optimal volumetric flow rate and output temperature of one fluid
Consulted with three team members to produce an algorithm that would maximize the heat inputs and outputs as well as the volumetric flow rate in order to generate the most cost efficient system
Senior Capstone Project: Environmentally Friendly Heat Pump Fall 2016
Given a thermo fluid system with an evaporator, compressor, condenser, and expansion valve as well as a number of temperature and pressure constraints
Asked to find the most economical heating system keeping in mind environmental affability and cost efficiency
Required to choose an appropriate refrigerant as well as find a number of temperatures, pressures and mass flow rates of the system
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
President and member, Men’s Rugby Club, Union College Winter 2016 – Winter 2017
Managed relationship with college administration, filed medical reports if injury occurs, scheduled games with other rugby associations, negotiated payment of coaching staff, and presided over other club leadership positions
Co-chairman and member, Usustain Executive Committee, Union College Spring 2015 – Winter 2016
Called Executive meetings, prepared PowerPoint presentations for assemblies, presided over discussions, stayed in contact with all other environmental groups on campus and managed events such as trash audits, movie showings, and information tables
Promote an environmentally conscious campus by encouraging students to become more sustainable thru managing their waste responsibly, minimizing that waste, and boycotting ecologically harmful products
Chairman, Ban Bottled Water Initiative, Union College Fall 2014 – Winter 2016
Coordinated meetings, directed discussions, and orchestrated activities such as reusable bottle giveaways and bottled vs. filtered water taste tests, by recruiting and supervising students in order to ban bottled water on Union campus
Green Grant Selection Committee Member Fall 2016
Attended annual committee meeting to select the award winners and determine how much of their requesting budget they will receive
EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant, Union College, Schenectady NY Summer 2016
Learned to calibrate a Digital Image Correlation System paired with Aramas software, conducted strain analysis on skeletal mycelia compression images captured by the DIC system, utilized these pictures to determine the mechanical properties of each sample, and 3D designed loaf frame joints required for experimentation
Marketing and Communications Intern, Museum of Innovation and Science, Schenectady NY Summer 2015
Expanded museum presence within the capital region through social media and online advertising outlets, assisted Vice President of Marketing and Communications during meetings, updated museum databases with relevant information, collaborated with other science museums to improve marketing proficiency
