Human Resources (employee interaction and documentation) DOT and OSHA Compliance

My position as the Director of Maintenance was eliminated in addition to other administrative and managerial staff. ADS Logistics was experiencing major financial issues due to the national recession in 2008. As a result, ADS filed for reorganization.

Walter Bay, owner of Tandem Transport heard that I was available and I was offered a shop manager position the following week. This position was certainly a step back but opportunities were limited due to the very high unemployment rate. Tandem Transport primarily hauled building materials such as shingles, wood and drywall for the big box stores. Freight continued to slow down drastically as the recession caused the housing market to plummet. My position was eliminated.

Gordon Food Service built a new multimillion dollar distribution center in Kenosha, WI. I was hired to open the shop from the ground up which was a challenging and rewarding experience. I rented an apartment there and came home to Indiana on the weekends. I was offered a shop manager position with Penske in East Chicago, IN which allowed me to move back home to be back with my family, especially my elderly mother. GFS is a great company and offered me exceptional opportunities.

Penske decided to place a tenured maintenance manager that was available into the East Chicago shop a couple of months later. As a result, I was reassigned to a sister shop in South Holland, IL as the afternoon maintenance supervisor. Shortly afterward, I decided this was not a good fit for me so I resigned.

Greg Popp, a personal friend and owner of Chart Pool USA asked me if I would be interested in an opportunity managing the shipping and warehousing department in his business. I decided to try something new and agreed to a year of employment. I decided to resign after I had met the one year commitment and search for a new opportunity in fleet maintenance. Shipping/ Warehousing was not an area of interest for me.

I was offered the position of Maintenance Planner/ Scheduler at Harsco which was certainly something that I was interested in. I was assigned to four slag production sites across the Midwest. My responsibility was to work with each local production/maintenance supervisor to assist and oversee that the equipment was being maintained safely, properly, and cost effectively. I was on sight at each location approximately every month and worked with the group of technicians one week per month. Harsco continued to lose major contracts to their competitor. They put the Metals and Minerals Division up for sale and had a massive lay off affecting me in addition to approximately 50 employees in December 2015.

I had been considering relocating to Phoenix, AZ as my son is a firefighter there. I sold my house in February 2016 and relocated to Phoenix in June. It was 117 degrees when I arrived and stayed between 106 and 110 for four months straight. I accepted an offer and worked for Penske again in September but realized that it was just too hot there for me. I resigned in January and decided to enjoy the beautiful Arizona spring before moving back home.

I understand the concerns regarding my job history since leaving ADS Logistics. Please keep in mind that the short term employment history is not a result of my qualifications. I have outstanding management and supervisory skills. On the other hand, these different areas of employment have provided me with additional valuable experiences and expanded my knowledge of quality maintenance processes.
