3M’s existing database environment uses Teradata or SQL Server as the back end and Abinitio for ETL operations. The requirements are issues relating to existing applications in terms of performance. The motive is to focus on the badly performing and highly skewed queries which are triggered from the reporting environments such as from BOXI or qlikview and the batch queries getting triggered from MVS jobs.

Archival Project in PayPal: This project deals with creating SCD type 4 history tables to accommodate the changes happening for every merchant data. To achieve this incremental data is populated in a work table and it is compared with final table. After comparison, the same is flagged appropriately. This project involves in the comprehensive collection of the Bank’s associate and contractor’s information for convenient access. Data is received from several External vendors and internal sources. ADIM receives these files from Fidelity (SOR) and loads these data to the raw, history and Model tables. ADIM provides data to over 200 different downstream systems within BAC via exposed table/view (for pull usage by downstream applications) or extract files (for the push of data out to downstream applications). ADIM also supports direct online user access reporting environment offering direct database query and real-time access to more then 5000 users.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Data warehouse development/maintenance for the largest bank in the United States (BANK OF AMERICA): The Wholesale Credit Risk Model (WCRM) was developed to consolidate credit information for use in monitoring and measuring credit risk within the Bank. The WCRM has been developed in Teradata using a Star schema approach to store the Wholesale credit risks data for efficient data storage, retrieval and maintenance. The WCRM model aims at improving the performance of managing (data storage & retrieval) Credit Risk Information and reducing the maintenance required. WCRM constitutes Data model and downstream modules. Data model is process of loading required data in star schema - which will be used for reporting purposes. ETL tool used in "Data model" are BTEQ/UNIX scripts, FEXP/MLOAD control files which are scheduled using Autosys.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Worked in "Merging" process - When bank acquires any financial institution, credit risk data should be merged to banks credit risk data. The credit risk information of acquired financial institution will be loaded into same star schema (in different database) and will be merged into WCRM database based on the business logic.

Worked in "History Retention" process - Credit Risk information that is maintained in star schema was on monthly basis, with the requirement change to make the model to have "30 days rolling history", design has been changed.

Worked in "Redesign" - The WCRM repository has been redesigned from "surrogate key" concept to "natural key" concept, which required restructuring of all dimensions and facts.

Worked in “Parallelism” – The WCRM database includes around 80 dimensions and 20 facts and these tables were being loaded sequentially. With this parallelism logic, we load a set of 15-20 tables in parallel, based on the spool availability using the control table approach.
