Global Functions – Technology Head – Global Functions, CTO

At Citigroup initially chartered in early 2011 to bring together Global Functions Technology on a single platform, within 3 months assumed oversight of Product and Technology Group responsible for initiating, designing and deploying the applications and data analytics. Led the architecture, deployment and operations of the User Interface, data warehouse, big data platform and Infrastructure which currently has approximately 2000+ users from all regions and lines of business. Senior Citigroup Management and Board can access high-level metrics from this platform on mobile devices running on Android and iOS. Oversaw $55M operating budget and staff of 600.

Led team in applying leading edge technology to deliver innovative, dynamically interactive solutions such as Java Based UIs (ExtJS and Angular JS), Analytics platform on Big Data and Data Visualization for senior leaders.

Technologies – ORaaS RAC (Data Warehouse), Splunk, AppDynamics, Ab Initio, SAS, ExtJS, Angular JS QlikView, Microstrategy, Cassandra, Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Amazon Web Services, Elasticsearch/Lucene.

Executed multiple programs in parallel to build 12 applications under the Compliance - Risk initiative

Led team in applying leading edge technology to deliver the Global Compliance and Risk’s new Corporate Scorecard and Metrics for 160 countries. As part of this program, consolidated the Auto and Manually Collected Metrics as per the Data Warehousing best practices (Inmon and Kimball). The Manual Collection application was built on ExtJS and Oracle. Data Sources comprised of all Compliance and Risk Sources and major data warehouses.

Implemented the Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment Platform comprising of the survey/questionnaire tool (replace Excel based surveys) on ExtJS/Oracle and the Assessments calculation for risk ratings in a star schema data model sourced from ODS using Oracle with SAS as front end (to replace 2000+ excel data sheets manual upload into Archer).

In 2014, initiated the Horizontal Risk Assessment Product based on high-risk products across Citigroup for all lines of business as per OCC Consent Order. This is built on Citi’s Strategic Risk-Compliance Platform and went live in Dec 2015.

Established the Center of Excellence for application performance across Citigroup on Splunk (Big Data platform) and AppDynamics for all other applications.

In 2014, designed and delivered the Institutional Clients KYC Metrics Automation platform on Angular JS / Hadoop. Approximately 35+ KYC sources including Citi KYC are being sourced; metrics are built in the ETL and accessed by KYC global community of 350 users.

Developed business cases to document opportunities (analytic, reporting, new products, services and opportunities for data monetization, etc.) enabled by emergent big data tooling (Apache Hadoop, NoSQL, and associated tools.

In 2012, linked the Citi’s Data Quality Management Process and rolled out Citigroup’s along with Issue Management and Resolution Process. By the end of 2014, a total of 350+ systems from all businesses were integrated into DQP with Monthly Scorecards and Metrics published to Operations and Technology Seniors.

Drove operating costs down 30% over 3 years while maintaining service levels through strict budgetary control and effective vendor management and onsite-offshore resource management to ensure competitive pricing.

Realigned the department into a lean, agile group to manage the use of internal Cloud services and offerings as a cohesive service. Developed, maintained and facilitated implementation of integrated IT architecture.

Responsible for ITOM and ITSSM for all my applications.

In 2015, lead the NoSQL strategy to build the real time Trade Data Analytics platform on Cassandra, Ab Initio to calculate aggregations/statistics on 15 – 18 Billion FIX messages per day. Higher latency analytics done in Hadoop using Pig and Hive (now Paxata). Data Storage, enterprise level monitoring and reporting to match and reconcile trades for all of historical Trading data was built on Hadoop/Hive Tables. The acquired data was used to perform analysis such as fraud detection, AML routines etc.

Starting 2014, Partnered with Global Technology and Operations to rollout the Global Product Citi ARC – Audit, Risk and Compliance Web based Portal as part of Franchise Risk and Strategy to report key risks – Country Risk, Model Risk, Operational, Credit Risk (wholesale and retail), AML and Trade Surveillance, Assessment/Controls and Finance. This platform to be rolled out in early 2015 will enhance the conversations with our Board of Directors, allow end users in Risk, Audit and Compliance to see a holistic picture and enhance the efforts of the global reporting units.

Delivered Risk and Operations report findings to executive management and Audit Committees, including recommendations for control enhancement and process improvement considerations based on industry best practices.

Set up the Data Triage Model and Data Acquisition Strategy to manage large number of Data sources. Partnered with CDO for Data Quality Program, active participant of Citi’s IMR (Issue Management and Reporting) process and E2E programs for data reconciliation.

As Director at Munich Re Group was responsible for building the application development and Data Integration Platform (DIP), Data Quality, Business Analysis and Solution Definitions; Technical Recommendations; and Testing and Project Executions. Was the “Point-of-Contact” with Sales and Marketing, Portfolio Managers, Internal Underwriters, Risk Managers, Actuaries, Controllers and Derivatives Traders for the developmental issues and challenges of Enterprise Data Integration.

Responsible for formulation of replacing the existing legacy Data Warehouse. Worked with the global business user community and Change Management teams on timely retirement of various components of the existing Data Warehouse.
