I have been a Registered Nurse for 21 years. My passion is Emergency Medicine even before becoming a nurse, I started as an EMT on a volunteer rescue squad and worked my way up to EMT-P. I worked more than 7 years as a Paramedic when I decided to further my career and attend nursing school. I have been working as an Emergency Department nurse since 1996 when I graduated.. I have an Associates degree in Nursing and Emergency Medical Science. I have been trained and am experienced in triage using the ESI system as well as other triage systems. I have used Wellsoft, Epic, and Meditech EHR, and Mekesson charting systems. Am also familiar with using Pyxis and Omnicell medication supply stations. Working in a Level I Trauma Center has given me the experience to provide safe and compassionate care to people of all ages from neonate to geriatric. We had patients from multi level traumas and critically ill medical patients to minor emergencies. Through this experience I have learned how to communicate well while being able to assist other health care members with relaying information to patients. I have learned many skills all in which I am confident in. I have also worked in the Minor Emergency Department where I cared for many different levels of illness and injury. I am certified in BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS,and ENPC. I am also a member of the Emergency Nurses Association. I feel that my experience caring for different age groups with multiple different illnesses and needs makes me a good candidate for this job.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Trinity Healthcare Staffing, Travel Nurses Across America December 2016 - present I work with a travel nursing company as a Registered Nurse that is contracted through different facilities. In this capacity I am presently working in the ED as a Staff RN where I use my assessment skills in order to prioritize the patient’s medical issue and treatment needs. During my assessment I utilize skills including obtaining vital signs, cardiac monitoring, hands on patient assessment and convey my findings to the physician in order to provide the best patient care possible to ensure the patient is treated as quickly and accurately possible for the best patient outcome. Patient complaints range from very minor illness, injuries, chronic medical problems, psychiatric problems, trauma, cardiac, stroke, and multiple other medical issues. Utilize the 5 rights of medication administration in order to provide safe passing of medications while observing for adverse reactions, side effects, and the wanted effect of what has been given. I also use many skills I have learned over the years of nursing such as IV with and without blood draw, NG tube placement, tracheostomy care, obtaining blood gases, cultures while following policies and procedures established by the facility. As an RN you act as an advocate for the patient and also assist in communication between the patient and provider. It is important to provide the patient with as much information, in an easy to understand context, to assure he or she understands what is being told to them. Electronic medical record use while following HIPAA regulations is a must.

RN Onslow Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, NC May 2016 - October 2016 Functioned as a Staff RN in the ED where I utilized my assessment skills including vital signs, cardiac monitor in order to provide safe and accurate treatment to patients. In my present job they use different areas of the ED to treat different ESI level patients. I have worked in all areas that include Supertrack, Rapid Medical Evaluation, Psych Evaluation area, and the main part of the ED where the higher acuity of patients are being treated. The patient nurse ratio ranges from 4-5 to 1, occasionally 6-1. I triaged patients upon arrival to the ED whether it been in triage area or at the bedside of a patient that arrived via EMS. During this time I became an EMT-P and supervisor for the organization. I frequently assisted in teaching IV classes as well as ACLS to new hires and staff of the local hospitals. I have taken many classes for various subjects throughout my medical career. I try to take classes often to keep my knowledge of new treatments, skills, and methods up to date.
