OBJECTIVE: To further enhance my career growth by obtaining a unique position
that will utiliz years of teaching and administrative experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Present – 2015 Bainum Family Foundation. I currently serve as a Special Education Coordinator assigned to the Allegheny East Conference of SDA for several DC area schools. I perform a variety of tasks to support the teachers which
includes assisting with developing IEP’s, tutoring students with special needs,
meeting with parents to establish goals and objectives for their student,
performing in-service training and briefings for faculty and staff and
facilitating meetings with a variety of stakeholders. I also assist with
developing reports and other measuring tools that provide results of growth
and improvement of the student population I serve.
2001 – 2015 Prince Georges County Public Schools (PGCPS). Served as a Teacher
Coordinator for Special Education at Friendly High School. I manage a staff
37 professional and paraprofessional staff. I oversee a criterion referenced
instruction program, a work-study program, and an intensive resource
program. There are a variety of related services specialist under my
supervision; such as; speech, occupational, physical therapists, and school
psychologist. My duties include overseeing cognitive testing and administering
academic testing. I also assist students and parents in finding appropriate
placements that will enhance their academic success as well as vocational
development. I oversee the development and implementation of Individual
Education Plans and Behavioral Intervention Plans for students.
1990 – 2000 Alexandria City Schools. I served as a Special Education Teacher
at Hammond Middle School where I taught a variety of Special
Education courses. I successfully utilized the City curriculum
techniques and tools to prepare students for the Virginia Standards of
Learning (SOL) statewide mandated tests. In addition, I served as a
Department Chair and Interim Team Leader . I was issued a Letter of Commendation for establishing an after school tutorial program.
1989 – 1990 Mannassas City Schools – Osbourne High School. I served as a
Work Study Coordinator/Special Education Teacher. In my dual role, I
taught courses one half-day and served as an employment coordinator for
Special Education students.
1980 – 1989 South Carolina and Augusta, GA Public Schools. I served as a
Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom environment. The
students had varying disabilities. I implemented the Individual Educational
Plan (IEP) for all students. I also served in a number of extra-curricular
activities acting as the Faculty sponsor for the Cheer Leaders and Junior
Varsity girls basketball coach. I was awarded the Incentive Teacher Award
in the Aiken County School district.
