ACADEMIC PROJECTS

PROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS OF B-PILLAR

- Modelled a B-Pillar in SolidWorks. Performed side crash simulation test. DOE study was performed in ANSYS to determine the sensitivity of the parameters in the model. K-S test was performed to determine the distribution output variable followed (normal or lognormal). Monte-Carlo simulation was used to predict the probability of failure. FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF BOLTED-FLANGE JOINT

- Analyzed the bolted flange connecting the middle and lower parts of the F1 engine nozzle, one of the 5 engines that powered the rocket, Saturn-V. Verified reaction force, hoop stress and expansion due to thermal strain with analytical solutions. FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF A BEAM

- Designed a beam in SolidWorks and analyzed it in ANSYS. The model was validated by refining the mesh to the maximum number

(3mm) and by checking the convergence criteria. Experiment was performed on 3D printed model and the model yielded at 56lbf. COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS

- Aim: To learn the two methods used in solving fluid dynamics problems; finite difference method and finite volume method and the corresponding governing equations involved (conservation of mass and conservation of momentum) to solve the problems. 1) Finite difference method:

- Solved the system of equations (Navier-Stokes equation, continuity equation) using staggered mesh in MATLAB. GCI analysis was performed to verify the solution. Velocity and the vorticity of the flow were visualized for a period of 10s. 2) Finite volume method:

- Developed the solution to a laminar pipe flow problem in ANSYS fluent. Verified the results (velocity vectors, velocity magnitude contours, pressure contours and the velocity profile at the outlet) by comparing it with the analytical solution. FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF A ROTATING STEEL ROD

- Displacement and strain field was calculated for linear, quadratic and cubic elements using a MATLAB code. To validate the results, displacement error norm vs element size was plotted on a log-log plot and rate of convergence was calculated. ENERGY ANALYSIS OF A BUILDING

- Thermal zoning was completed in eQUEST based on the ventilation requirement in each room of the 2-floor building in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The building was then calibrated, making it ASHRAE 90.1-2001 compliant. Energy conservation measures (PV systems, LPD, occupancy sensors, etc.) were applied to obtain 63% cost savings over ASHRAE compliant model. INTERNSHIP

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL PURPOSE DRILLING AND REAMING MACHINE Jan - Apr 2015 Designed (NX Siemens) and fabricated a special purpose machine (SPM) for Mahindra and Mahindra for drilling and reaming operations on sub-assembly gearbox and the cycle time of the SPM was compared with the existing conventional machine. PUBLICATIONS

ADVANCEMENT IN BRAKE TECHNOLOGY IN HEAVY MOTOR VEHICLES (NX SIEMENS 8.5) July 2014 Presented a technical paper in the “Partners for the Advancement of collaborative Engineering Education” (PACE) Annual Forum, at Turin, Italy. Devised an autonomous braking system that ensures road safety. Automatic Emergency Braking System mitigates accidents by activating the braking system by predicting the possibility of an accident. CERTIFICATIONS

- Beginners Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

- Director of an NGO – Project ReachOut®, a non-profit organization at Mysore, India. TECHNICAL SKILLS

Modelling tools: NX Siemens 8.5 (UG), SolidWorks, Solid Edge V21 Analysis tools: ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Fluent, ABAQUS Statistical and Programming tools: JMP, Minitab, Microsoft Excel, MATLAB, C
