In the various industries that I have been associated with I have learned how to manage many different areas of companies to increase the overall numbers. While each industry is different, the common goal of each is to make profits while enhancing the customer and associate experience. While increasing the profits of each company that I have worked for by a minimum of 6% over plan and reducing shrink, the companies have moved forward and continue to use several the concepts I put into place. The dedication to teamwork, open dialogue, and a common goal all of these companies have allowed them to thrive even in a weak economy. As a leader in the company the emphasis of a common goal and a vision that will allow all to see the end product which is key to understanding the purpose of new ideas and procedures.

Assistant Store Manager

Started with this retail chain in 2014. Responsibilities are the hiring and training of crew and management. I have worked a variety of location throughout the store. I have worked all general merchandise areas including overnights. I came into the store to help reduce shrink and increase moral throughout the general merchandise areas. I was able to help reduce shrink in my areas by 40 % over the previous year and increase sales in these areas by an average of 12%. I was moved overnights as a strictly operation manager to correct many of the procedures that were causing breakdowns through the store from lost merchandize to meeting standards of the unload and stocking process.

2007-2014 Valero Corporation Retail Gas Industry

Store Manager/ Multi unit Manager

Started with this retail chain in 2007. Responsibilities are the hiring and training of crew and management. Daily work with deposits, daily and monthly numbers. I developed a spreadsheet for the other stores in the area this was used to better track controllable expenses and understand financial statements. Pushed the store through community involvement, even in tough economy to increase the gross profit by 4% in 2008. Sales for first quarter of 2014 are up 6% while gross profit has increased by 9%. Current shrink for unit is below industry standards set at 1%, first quarter shrink came in at 0.5%.

2002 – 2007 Wendy’s International QSR Industry

General Manager

I was hired on as a Co-Manager, which is the second in line for this industry. After working for about a year and a half I was promoted to General Manager. I worked at the location at 104th and Federal for a little over a year. I brought that store in line for Gross Profit, Sales and food cost. I was then given the store that they had the most complaints and lowest profits in the district. When I was there, the complaints became almost non-existent. Labor controls were all in place to meet budget, and for the first time in 6 years the store has made more than what was budgeted. I was responsible for hiring, training and ensure that all dollars flow-through to the bottom line. Not an easy task when I had to turn over roughly 70% of the crew and 40% of the management team.

1998-2002 Kacey Fine Furniture Denver, Co

Human Resource Manager/Assistant Controller

Was hired on at Kacey for the department of Accounting as the assistant controller and human resource manager. Responsibilities included but not limited to month reconciliation, assist payroll, I9 information and WOTC filing, accounts payable and revise the accounts receivable department. After working there for about 12 months my direct supervisor, Controller for Kacey, was let go from the company. I held those duties for approximately a year and a half until a new controller was hired. I trained her for the position including the in-house computer system before I left the company.

Controller

Hired on as the manager of accounts receivable, took the percent over 90 days outstanding from roughly 24% to a constant percentage below 9%. Was then promoted to head of accounting roughly a year after that and later given the title of controller. In charge of all reconciliation and overseeing accounting department of 8 people. I reported directly to the president and vice president of the company.

Was hired as a science teacher for this school, it is a boarding school for students in grades 9-12. Even though I had never taught these subjects I was willing to work hard to make sure I was up to speed with regards to the subjects I was teaching. I was also responsible to ensure that all students participated in PE twice a week. All though it was a completely different experience than my student teaching, I feel as if I gained more knowledge having to design the curriculum to succeed in teaching these young men.

Started the semester working with two separate Cooperating teachers and found this to be more rewarding than a challenge. I was able to work into the position within the first few weeks that I was teaching, planning and running all operations in the classroom. Had a wonderful time getting to know all the students and have them accept me in the classroom as if I had been there the entire year. I completed my student teaching hours in April but remained up to and through finals week to get an understanding of the end of year process.

Coaching experience, I have coached various sports for over 18 years and have coached up to the high school level in two different sports. I enjoy using the teamwork qualities of competitive sports to those of the industry I have been working.
