Research
Undergraduate Research Assistant Rao Lab – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign June 2015 – May 2016
• Took part in the research of Prof. Christopher Rao for 20 hours weekly during the summer of 2015 and for 12 hours weekly during the following fall and spring semesters.
• Investigated carbon catabolite repression of E. coli for applications in biofuel production.
• Analyzed fermentation samples using optics and chromatography to measure the sugar consumption rate of E. coli and develop a mechanism for carbon catabolite repression.
• Utilized Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Fast-Protein Liquid chromatography (FPLC) techniques in order to engineer E. coli to digest algae for industrial scale glucose production. Summer Research Assistant Maize Genetics Cooperation Stock Center June 2016 – September 2016
• Assisted maize geneticists in field work and pedigree data entry in order to gain a better understanding of the regulatory network of the maize genome. Activities
Student Ambassador UIUC School of Chemical Sciences May 2015 - present
• Worked with academic advisors to guide incoming freshmen during the summer orientation periods of 2015 and 2016.
• Provided academic counsel to prospective students at biweekly campus fairs and visiting days. Additional Skills
• Familiar with MATLAB and C programming
• Experienced with laboratory procedures: handling chemicals, preparing buffers, pipetting, growing cells, plasmid extraction, lysate transduction, PCR, primer design, protein purification, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, HPLC, and FPLC.
