Resume:

Summary:

Over ** years of product design, product transfer, and manufacturing support experience. Proficient in complex part design and analysis/ FEA using Solid Works. Skilled in Process Selection; Injection Molding, LIM, MIM, Casting, Extrusion, Metal Forming and Rapid Prototype, for optimization of product design, packaging, and cost controls. I have established strong customer relationships, internal/ external, by clear direction of partner’s responsibilities. I have championed projects and technical lead responsibilities for the success of the company.

Relevant Experience:

Contractor- self-employed 2016 - 2017

Managed all aspects of the project; design, testing, procurement, and document control.

CareFusion, San Diego, California 2004 - 2016

Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer

Technical lead for the ME group in downstream products

Provided technical guidance to 6+ mechanical engineers (ME). Develop product test specifications and establish validation requirements; DV&V, WCTA, FEA, FAIR, GD&T etc.

Performed failure root cause analysis per DMAIC methodology.

Re-designed power station system and successfully met IPX03 per IEC 60529.

Systems engineer and mechanical lead designer of enclosure that required a lock mechanism that meets drop requirements, and is user friendly.

Syringe project technical lead focused on design opportunities, proof of concept, product verification and time-lines. Cost sensitive project that required team tasks focus, clear communication with outside engineering partners while ensuring the product meets the demands of both OUS and US customers. User trial confirmations ensured we were consistent with customer’s expectations.

Designed a lead-screw chassis that met functional requirements and outperformed existing internal products. Designed to meet IEC 60601 requirements and internal PRD.

Principal Mechanical Engineer

Designed a fluid pump device from concept, to tooling, and test validation. Fabricated a test fixture and evaluated results using statistical methods-Minitab. Data was generated from a close loop system using PCA and Lab-view controls.

Designed a backwards compatible display module. Addressed electrical grounding, packaging/drop test requirements were met, and a wireless card was mounted and spring loaded with a single component.

Designed electro-mechanical systems that identify caregiver inputs and translate the information to functional specifications to administer the drug I lV-fluid. Design included optical and reflective sensors.

Alaris Medical Systems, Sorrento Valley, California 1995 - 2004

Senior Mechanical Engineer

In charge of design, development, tests and implementation of electro-mechanical sub- assemblies into production. Alaris was formed from the IMED I I-VAC Merger.

Designed an electro-mechanical Sensor Housing Module. Sub-system consisted of injection molded parts from a family tool that houses four pairs of electrical sensors. The sub-assembly is welded ultrasonically and captures a printed circuit assembly that interfaces with four other sub-systems.

Designed a case interlocking latch mechanism to meet impact strength requirements through material selection, injection molded part design and sheet metal forming.

Designed a structural mounting lock mechanism, composed of aluminum casting and extruded parts. The mechanism transfers the load to an internal frame. The design also includes a key- locking feature to ensure customer safety.

Re-designed high volume products to improve the through put yields at our “maquiladoras”.

Puritan-Bennett, Carlsbad, California 1989 - 1995

Development/Manufacturing Engineer

Designed sub-assembly components and enclosures that interfaced with adjacent modules. Involved in all aspects of product development, including production release.

Designed system requirements that addressed structure, thermal management, and electrical / pneumatic interconnects.

Designed, modeled, and prototyped a latch mechanism that engages a critical seal.

Designed three piece injection molded filter. The locking mechanism and the ultrasonic welded assembly were proven effective in a 10-year life cycle study.

Designed a pressure relief valve, which realized savings of $50 per unit I $175,000 annually. The three-piece injection molded valve was designed from concept, and consisted of a dual area ratio system. LIM diaphragm resulted in increased yields from 60% to 90% with yearly savings of $35,000.

Education Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering 1985 - 1989

University of California, San Diego

Professional Certificate in Project Management in progress

UC, San Diego (UCSD – Extension)

Six Sigma Green Belt June 2006

U.S. Patent: Medical Instrument Flow Stop Interface US 6, 629,955 85

Computer Skills: Minitab, Microsoft SW, SAP, SOLIDWORKS Teamcenter/ PDM

Special Skills: Fluent in Spanish
