Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Medical support assistants my chief sources of training and responsibilities are as followed:

-Able to enter, manipulate, and retrieve data from CHCS and AHLTA

- Assembling patient records according to prescribed formats;

- Inserting additional forms and charts as necessary, and stamping them with correct patient identifications

- Reviewing patients' charts and recording a variety of medical data in accordance to HIPAA regulations

- Recording physicians' orders for patients on a variety of records

- Selecting, completing, and routing requests for patient activities and treatment procedures;

- Scheduling appointments for patients

- Ordering and keeping records of supplies

- Receiving and distributing mail to medical staff and patients

-Following clinic/practice communication procedures, including operating emergency communication lines, public announcements and emergency alarms.

-Receive minimum patient information and provide information to the medical personnel

-Communicate clearly to parties associated with daily and emergency situations

-Reconciling end-of-shift/ end=of-day processes and reports

-Completing routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memoranda, and various automated systems reports and programs.

-Knowledge of assembling records according to the standards set forth by the clinics and army regulations and standards.

Coordinates with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports to ensure that the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic, and make any necessary adjustments.

Skilled in developing and maintaining effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team within Evans Army Community Hospital clinics and outlying facilities. Effectively communicate with non-VA medical facilities; facilitate/process secure messaging with the patient and team; notify patients of normal lab results; develop and manage a tracking system for follow up care such as consults, tests required by facility standards.

Accepts telephone calls to the Medical Center/CBOCs regarding outpatient inquiries; Utilizing "administrative" systems knowledge in assessing patient/caller needs, practices independent decision-making, coordinates care needs and direct problem resolution as appropriate; Determines the nature of the call and assists with communicating needs regarding appointments, medication refills/renewals, etc. and/or refers the call to the appropriate clinical or administrative personnel.

Acquire information from patients in an interview type fashion to obtain information and then route tem to the appropriate department within the clinic setting.

Duties performed as required:

- Reporting for duty during inclement weather conditions

- Temporary assignments to other clinics or wards

- Working shifts

- Working other than normal duty hours

- Acting as a chaperon

- Altering schedules for physicians in the clinic setting

- Rescheduling patients in accordance to the need of the clinic

- Performing as a receptionist and general record keeping duties

-Working efficiently, and accurately for the benefit of patient care

-Perform receptionist duties in the any assigned area or clinic and specialty department, provide customer service and perform any duty assigned. Provide timely and proper treatment of patients, maintain appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinic.

-Assist clinic with access to care and contingency plans by adjusting appointments times, locations and dates as well as sifting patients to other health care providers in the event of a schedule or staffing conflicts and patient coverage.
