“A STUDY ON FLOOD IN A LOW LYING AREA OF CALICUT CITY”

Located flood affected areas in the city.

Identified the causes of flash floods.

Analyzed the drainage system.

Calculated the run off in the study area during the rainy seasons .

Used GIS Arc and digitized the land use map and found out the built up area.

Checked whether the rainwater harvesting system is provided in the buildings as per Kerala Building Rules.

Determined suitable measures to prevent flash floods.

“STRENGTH OF LIGHT WEIGHT GLASS AGGREGATE CONCRETE”

Description: Glass plays an important role. It has long been used in the construction industry as a structural material. Glass can be hidden in the structure in the form of expanded glass aggregate, which can be used to substitute for aggregates in concrete or in a filtering layer. Trial manufacturing of expanded glass aggregates in Hungary started in 1999. Since no air-polluting gases are formed during the process of re-melting, it is highly recommended to recycle waste glass.
