SUMMARY

I am an independent research, consulting, and training professional from the Philippines and a Ph.D. in Economics student at De La Salle University. A Certified Public Accountant by profession, I finished my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Accountancy. I have an extensive portfolio of consulting engagements with a multilateral financial institution, top private companies, small and medium enterprises, government agencies, academia, not-for-profit organizations. My previous work experiences in the areas of Learning and Development, Research, Education, Corporate Finance, and Accounting and Auditing added value to my competence in this very exciting field.

Some of my current and completed projects include: business planning, economic analysis, accounting and finance studies, feasibility and market research, sustainability projects, resource valuation, corporate and local governance, data analytics, project management, learning and development, needs assessment, workshop facilitation, engagements with the public sector and civil society organizations, government procurement, and financial reporting and analysis.

In the field of research, I publish in international journals and acts as a resource person in workshops, lectures, and conferences. I also review some of the articles submitted for publication in the Asia- Pacific Social Science Review and the Journal of Global Business.

My stint as an educator included teaching accounting, finance, and economics to undergraduate and graduate students. I even once taught an accounting class for Deaf students given my proficiency in Filipino Sign Language (FSL). Moreover, I also obtained my certification to design and implement learning programs for the Open Development Initiative of the World Bank in the Philippines.

As a yoga practitioner, I previously served as one of the brand ambassadors for Yoga+ Express. I extended this work to advocating for health and wellness programs, as well as inspiring people to live a lifestyle where they can appreciate their bodies better and to continue their journey towards becoming a better version of themselves.

Co-designed a technical session on financial management, store operations, customer relations, and inventory management to capacitate 4,000 store owners and general merchandisers from Naga City, Tacloban City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Bulacan in sustaining their micro-enterprises.

Under the auspice of the Wallace Business Forum, this study tackled the prospects of the Philippine express market industry for the years 2013-2017 and how the country can foster economic growth by anchoring its competitiveness in this industry. My contribution in this project is the development of a forecasting model as well as conducting extensive research related to the study.

This project depicted the linkage between the academe, its surrounding communities and sustainable development. It highlighted the role of academia in advocating for sustainable development among communities using the Barangay Development Plan as the implementing tool.

April 2014 FORECASTING PHILIPPINE MONTHLY INFLATION: A RE-ANALYSIS This research spins off from earlier studies using a rigorous process that employs a comprehensive set of forecasting techniques and a more complete time series data published by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

ECONOMIC OUTPUT AND LAND USE FOR RICE PRODUCTION IN THE PHILIPPINES

This project used the fundamental input-output analysis to assess the possible consequences of increased economic output and land use to sustain rice production in the country. Implications of interdependencies related to continuous population growth, sustainable food production, and food security are also addressed.

THE USE OF ROBUST HAUSMAN TEST IN LINEAR PANEL DATA REGRESSION MODELS

This paper used a more robust Hausman test to show that the test statistic is closely associated with random effects. This was verified by comparing traditional and robust Hausman tests and conducting a Monte Carlo simulation of the robust version of this test.

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR, “DEMYSTIFYING UNEMPLOYMENT AND JOB SEARCH IN THE PHILIPPINES: EVIDENCE FROM THE EPISODES OF THE LABOR FORCE SURVEY”

This project seeks to understand the job search behavior of Filipinos and their use of job search techniques using various episodes of the Philippine Labor Force Survey. The output seeks to assist the Department of Labor and Employment and other agencies, in strengthening their employment facilitation programs to reduce the state of unemployment in the Philippines.

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR, “SOCIAL BENEFIT-COST ANALYSIS IN THE INTRODUCTION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES: ISSUES, CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES”

As a prelude to my doctoral dissertation, this project uses the foundations of social benefit-cost analysis (SBCA) and its application in mainstreaming electric vehicles. Given the limited number of discourses in this particular area, this discourse highlights certain issues, challenges, opportunities, and policy implications that can be addressed by further research.

PROPOSAL WRITER AND CO-INVESTIGATOR, “PAMANA (PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn) PROGRAM REVIEW PROJECT”

This national monitoring and evaluation project assessed the effectiveness, efficiency, and responsiveness of the peace and development framework of the National Government to promote conflict sensitivity, peace promotion, and economic development to conflict-affected and conflict-vulnerable areas in the Philippines. The study covered 21 provinces across 5 PAMANA zones nationwide. I led the writing of the proposal and managed the contracting activities as soon as DLSU was announced as the winner after the public bidding process that began in September 2014. Since then, my work has evolved in monitoring the coordination efforts of the National Project Team and initial data analysis.

CO-INVESTIGATOR, “GOVERNANCE REFORMS: THE PHILIPPINE STATE IN AN OPEN AND INTEGRATED EAST ASIA

This study sought to develop transparent and accountable governance systems and models based from the experience of the Philippines and East Asia. The output of this project will enhance the essential functions of governments to ensure political stability and consistency through constituency-responsive and participatory governance. It also aims to rethink government capacity by crafting an effective political framework responsive to economic action, while advocating for strategic leadership and global thinking.

This report highlighted the contribution of citizen participation on fiscal transparency initiatives towards promoting better governance in the Philippines. CO-INVESTIGATOR, “THE LOCAL DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT FUND: THE CASE OF ILOILO”

This project sought to answer research questions that relate the availability and use of the local disaster risk reduction management fund made available through the Full Disclosure Policy Portal (FDPP) to address capacity problems of local government units in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

Project: Review of State-Owned Enterprise Engagement and Reforms

(SC 108530 REG; Contract No. 133121)

As consultant, my tasks for this project include:

(i) Collecting and processing State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) project data from the various ADB databases and project documents across the different sectors and financing modalities;

(ii) Processing SOE portfolio data to analyze trends in portfolio change (for example sector mix, program vs project based loans, sovereign vs non-sovereign loans) and project complexity;

(iii) Reviewing relevant ADB policy and strategy documents, relevant staff instructions, and relevant portions of operations manuals;

(iv) Undertaking desk reviews of selected SOE projects and technical assistance to gauge the scope of work, and identify insightful lessons and good practices;

(v) Preparing assessment sheets for selected ADB-approved projects and technical assistance;

(vi) Compiling relevant information on SOE support programs, priorities, strategies/policies of other multilateral development banks; and

(vii) Carrying out other tasks and providing other research, analysis and reporting of other specific issues relating to the evaluation study.

Provides consulting services on accounting, taxation, and management advisory to small-scale businesses; technical advice on improving business operations and capacity-building activities; and conducts research, training, and consulting activities, some of whom are listed below:

Research Consulting:

1. Baseline research on distressed women OFWs towards becoming micro-entrepreneurs (First draft only, final draft by another consultant);

2. Research on improving the conduct of shareholder meetings towards better corporate governance;

3. Statistical analysis on the study of Philippine express markets; and 4. Research methods and statistical consulting in accounting research for the industry and the academe

Business Consulting:

1. Business planning for entry into motor vehicle financing industry; 2. Feasibility study for entry into renovation services industry; 3. Preparation of management accounting reports for SMEs; 4. Operations planning for proposed national association of micro- entrepreneurs; and

5. Review of accounting course ware design and marketing plan for its adoption among K-12 institutions, with technical advice on the action research and consumer satisfaction studies agenda.

Capacity Building:

1. Design and delivery of a technical session on financial management to 1,000 women micro-entrepreneurs in Visayas, with the training material benefited 4,000 micro-entrepreneurs during its 2015 run; 2. The World Bank's Open Development Initiative Training at DLSU; 3. Design, Pedagogy, and Assessment Workshop on the Accountancy, Business, and Management Strand of the K-12 Program to Basic Education Teachers;

4. Revision of the course syllabus of two Financial Management courses under the Expected Lasallian Graduate Attributes (ELGA) approach using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework; and 5. Business research and development consulting for professional training and international certification programs.

Co-spearheaded the rebuilding of the Learning and Development Unit; co-led the implementation of technical and soft-skills training programs for audit, tax, and advisory professionals; managed the company’s training management system (TMS) to monitor the attendance and time charging of KPMG professionals in their training programs;
