Contract Engineer, -2001-2006
Wynn Corp and C&S Engineering co – Friendswood TX
Performed detailed problem analysis at different Dupont sites and several Landry’s properties including Aquariums and several hotels. Dupont work included trips to Taiwan to solve problems on their plastics casting and curing facility. Success with problem solving allowed me to return many times evolving into new designs. I designed and installed a hot oven chain oiling system, pneumatic SS belt tension system, relocated Beta thickness machine, analyzed their Clean Room and completed an immediate waste boiler repair. Working with Landry’s I was called in to help them solve their constant unplanned shutdowns of their Aquarium PLC pump & filter systems, later installing a new PLC system in July 2016. I designed and installed a controls backup system that would allow for manual operation without a new PLC. The later work was converting their first PLC system to a PC based system including new VFD pump controls. Continued Landry’s work included a new design to solve a nagging problem with their huge chiller and heat system at the “Inn at the Ballpark” and “Vic & Anthony’s restaurant”. I reviewed all drawings building drawings, worked with several vendors to recalculate air-balances, exchanger chiller loads, piping flows, roof piping insulation, air handler mounts, gas reheat controllers, and a slow control system. Work continued until contract work was completed.
Senior lead project engineer, 1995-2001
Noltex LLC – Soaranol plastics plant, - Laporte, Tx.
Began Noltex duties as one of only 3-American engineers working closely with the 5- Japanese engineers for the task of refitting of the entire old Dupont EVOH plant to the Japanese technology. Our design work used a skeleton staff with an extremely limited budget, reusing and modifying old equipment in 1995 with successful start-up in 1996. Design duties included nearly all mechanical and electrical systems. Plant-wide work included the Allen Bradley 480V and Westinghouse 2400V & 12KV switch-gear, Fischer Provox DCS connections, reworkingl Durco, Bingham & Lewa pumps & motors and overhaul of 300# steam turbines. Other commissioning work included rebuilding plant utilities by reparing 2-York refrigeration units and a Glegg demin water system. I reworked large 200hp blowers using my spindle design. Instrumentation re-work included modification of the Fugi robot and Modicon packaging lines to use paper bags. Final commissioning work included round-the-clock startup assistance, hands-on maintenance and Chiyoda Engineering management review meetings. Later duties involved plant operations, robot training and assisting new maintenance dept. My work saved nearly 2 million dollars of product with a pellet rewash system and received a large reward in 1997.
New project work:
Designed, built and installed a new 350GPM Glegg Demin system,
Added 2-600 York brine chillers, Designed and installed 2-1600 SCFM Joy air compressors,
Tested 1-500KW Kohler generator,
Added 1- new 480V A/B Motor control center,
Added a 4800KVAR capacitor bank
Installed 2 new on-line Fluid Data GC’s.
NEW 1200GPM process water plant, providing civil, piping and E & I design using NEW foundation field buss Delta-V automated controls.
Designed a complete building for a new product development Lab building, (ON TIME and on budget),
I designed a new Admin parking lot with a new plant security system with automatic turnstile, cameras.
and a large operator change house with full utilities.
Work continued until the engineering department was closed by the Japanese headquarters in 2001.
Project design engineer, 1990-1992
