Dear Hiring Manager,
I graduated in May from the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science with my Master of Arts in Psychology. My specialization is in Social and Consumer Psychology, and I have a strong interest in marketing and consumer insight. The knowledge and critical thinking skills I have gained through my studies will help me solve any challenge at Us Weekly. I’m extremely passionate about pop culture, and I closely follow celebrity news.
I currently work part-time for Days of the Giants as a personal assistant to designer and playwright Carrie Robbins. This role has taught me excellent organizational skills. I provide administrative support that requires much attention to detail, because I help maintain a contact database of artists to reach through email campaigns. The role has also instilled a sense of flexibility and time-management. Answering calls and replying to emails on her behalf has expanded my oral and written communication skills, and I would apply this experience as a marketing assistant. I currently make $20 dollars an hour; however, my salary is negotiable based on the total benefits package. Moreover, my previous PR internship at the independent record label Pias provided experience working with a small team and promoting artists. During my time at Pias, I posted content to the label’s Instagram and Twitter accounts and engaged with followers. I also conducted research on industry competitors and compiled press clippings.
Moreover, I have acquired a deep understanding of consumer behavior and a comfort with statistical analysis through my studies. Classes such as The Psychology of Branding explored how the psyche or mind engages with brands and provided an understanding of the depth of people’s relationships with brands. An additional course The Psychology of Social Media has instilled an interest in social media marketing and an appreciation of social media as a form of social influence on consumer behavior. These classes taught me to meet deadlines and think creatively; these skills align with the role. Last, attending a university with such a diverse student body has brought about an ease in working with people with different backgrounds, values, cultures, experiences, and ideas. This experience will impact the way I work.
I would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss my application. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Claire Rose
