EXPERIENCE

University of Michigan-Dearborn Position: Research Assistant [October 2016 – April 2017]

• Worked as a Research Assistant under Dr. Subrata Sengupta.

• Responsible for development of thermal battery for an automotive application.

• Performed fluid flow simulations using ANSYS-Fluent and made improvements to the design using SolidWorks.

• Hands on experience in building the prototype at the workshop. University of Michigan-Dearborn Position: Teaching Assistant [September 2016 – December 2016]

• Assisted the Professor in reviewing material, preparing assignments and grading them for the course.

• Mentored graduate students on ANSYS-Fluent software and guided them in their projects. Ashok Leyland Private Limited, India Position: Intern [November 2014]

• Developed a standard operating procedure for manufacturing of sub parts and the assembly of the vehicle.

• Gained insight into various assembly processes such as Front and Rear Axle, Frame, Chassis and Engine assembly of trucks and buses.

Central Institute of Tool Design, India Position: Intern [November 2013- December 2013]

• Acquired hands on experience on various types of CNC machines used by the organization.

• Trained in the fundamentals of CNC Programming.

• Designed components using CATIA V5 and used G codes to manufacture using CNC machine. ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Structural and Modal analysis of a bridge structure using ABAQUS [January 2017-April 2017]

• Modeled the bridge structure using ABAQUS and performed Modal analysis to obtain the mode shapes in free-free condition.

• Determined the mass, load capacity and efficiency (load/mass ratio) of the bridge.

• Improved the load/mass ratio of the bridge by altering the size and orientation of the elements. Stress analysis of a concrete pressure vessel with a steel liner using ABAQUS [January 2017-February 2017]

• Modeled an axisymmetric model of a pressure vessel in ABAQUS and defined the material properties, loading and boundary conditions.

• Performed stress analysis and obtained the von misses stress, max. and min. principle stress and deformation of the vessel.

• Determined the maximum pressure the vessel can withstand by studying the FEA results. AVINASH NANDI

• Created the back-step flow model using Design Modeler of ANSYS-Fluent.

• Generated the mesh using ANSYS Mesh and defined the inlet temperature, fluid speed, fluid properties and other boundary conditions in the setup.

• Analyzed the velocity vectors, temperature profile and pressure profile of the fluid flow. Design and Simulation of a Fuel Cell system for a mid-size passenger car [January 2016-April 2016]

• Calculated the maximum fuel cell stack power required to power the vehicle for constant speed, acceleration and slope and designed the fuel cell based on this requirement.

• Determined the stack arrangement to obtain the desired voltage and current to do the work.

• Simulated the vehicle for a simplified highway cycle and estimated the mass of fuel and mass of air required by the fuel cell stack for the complete cycle.

Transmission loss of a Muffler [October 2015-December 2015]

• Modeled the geometry of the muffler using CATIA V5.

• Performed harmonic analysis on the muffler and the transmission loss for different frequencies was calculated using ANSYS, which was then compared with the analytical results.

• Modified the muffler by introducing a baffle plate and the same analysis was performed. Modal analysis of a steel frame [September 2015-October 2015]

• Modeled a steel frame using CATIA V5 and imported it into ANSYS workbench.

• Performed modal analysis of the steel frame using ANSYS workbench under free-free condition.

• Compared the FEA results with the experimental results. Design and Fabrication of Wheelchair to facilitate maneuvering and treatment of [December 2014-May 2015] Quadriplegic patients

• Designed and fabricated a wheelchair that will cater to the needs of Quadriplegic patients, address their need for physiotherapy treatment and locomotion.

• Conducted DFMEA, designed the model using SolidWorks and stress analysis was performed using ANSYS workbench.

• Fabricated the prototype at the university workshop and prepared a Bill of Materials.

• Achieved in making this wheelchair safe, reliable and economical and provided a single point solution for the treatment of such patients, thus reducing the burden on both - the patient as well as the attendant. ACHIEVEMENTS & ACTIVITIES

• Awarded the Non-Resident Graduate Tuition Scholarship for four semesters from the University of Michigan- Dearborn.

• Awarded the University Merit-Scholarship from SRM University for being in Top 10% of the class.

• Appointed as Department Representative of Indian Graduate Student Association (IGSA) at the University of Michigan- Dearborn. Helped and guided new incoming international students.
