CLINICAL PHARMACIST
As a clinical PBM pharmacist I have been involved in a variety of cost containment efforts for the Medicaid programs of several states. These include, but are not limited to, reviewing prior authorization requests based on clinical criteria necessary for approval, preferred drug lists, step therapies, maximum daily dosage edits, retrospective drug utilization review, high dollar prescription edits, drug-drug interaction reviews, mental health utilization edits, early refill edits, age appropriate edits, and exceeding maximum brand prescriptions per month edits. My job is to interpret plan parameters set by the states and apply my clinical knowledge in an effort to maximize cost containment while ensuring effective patient care and good provider relations. I have also been involved in providing medication management reviews for Medicare Part D patients. This involved counseling patients about the proper use of their medications, potential side effects and drug interactions, maximization of their benefits, and addressing their questions and concerns.
