Colony Energy, Reno LNG Facility, Reno, Nevada. Managed and prepared conceptual design in support of project development for 180,000 gallon per day LNG production facility.

Developed conceptual design for the modification of the existing facility including installation of a continuous flare for high Btu gas to bring sales gas into compliance with So. Cal Gas Rule 30 and crude oil product into compliance with contractual RVP specification.

Premier Silica, Jurupa Valley California. Managed structural retrofit and installation of replacement classifier in this silica sand processing facility. Engineered unique solutions to long term operational issues.

PXP Montebello Hills, California. Conducted an extensive survey of existing drainage and retention basins on the Montebello Hills field. Developed a plan to prevent accidental leaks and spills from leaving the lease.

Vintage Production, LLC, Kern Front Field, Bakersfield, California. Executed detailed design of heavy crude oil dehydration facilities for the Kern Front Field. Activities included development of PFDs, P&IDs, appurtenance drawings, and writing the operating manual.

Vintage Production, LLC, Lost Hills Field, Bakersfield, California. Conducted Life of Field planning study to coordinate construction and startup of heavy crude oil dehydration and steam production facilities to planned increase in enhanced oil recovery for the Lost Hills lease.

ENEL Green Power North America, Cove Fort Geothermal Power Project, Cove Fort, Utah. Developed and edited design specifications for Cove Fort Geothermal Power Project. The Cove Fort project features an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) because of the modest temperature of the geothermal resource.

Group Manager Gasification Technology, Cypress, California. Managed the US consultancy branch of a UK based technology group specializing in gasification technologies. Work included supervision, technology review, project management, sales, marketing, business plan, and administrative duties. Gasification technologies included primarily commercially available and emergent gasification, in situ gasification, and pyrolysis processes. Fuels included coal, coke, and biomass to products ranging from electricity to transport fuels.

Joint Water Pollution Control Plant Generation Facility Steam Cycle Modifications, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, Carson, CA. Engineering Project Manager. 2009 TIC $30 million. Design engineering and construction advisor for the replacement of the steam cycle equipment on a digester gas fired combined cycle power generation facility. I took over this project at the start of construction with 15 months remaining trimming loss on the lump sum (engineering) part of this project and executed the remaining time and materials work in close coordination with the customer.

Calabasas Gas to Energy Facility, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, Agoura, CA. Engineering Project Manager. 2009. TIC $41 million. Design engineering and construction support for a first of a kind landfill gas fired simple cycle combustion turbine power generation facility. I took over this distressed project, minimized loss on remaining lump sum engineering work, tightly managed remaining time and materials work, and improved relationship with client.

Flare Gas Recovery Header Replacement Project, Tesoro LAR, Los Angeles, CA. Engineering Project Manager 2008-2009. TIC $53 million. Multiple projects to upgrade and replace main and unit flare headers throughout the Tesoro Los Angeles Refinery. Saved Tesoro $200,000 in engineering costs by executing piping stress analysis through the Jacobs Mumbai office. Flexibility accommodating mid-execution client driven changes and implementation of positive change control drove this much delayed project to completion at approximately $5 million savings over original estimates.

Alky Acid Project, Tesoro LAR, Los Angeles, CA. Senior Project Manager. 2008. TIC $4,700,000. Replacement of sulfuric acid feed and spent acid lines between the Alkylation unit and acid storage. Project completed under budget and on schedule.

Underground Flare Header Replacement Project, Tesoro LAR, Los Angeles, CA. Senior Project Manager 2008. TIC $ 10.8 million. Took over and completed this EP header replacement project $6.3 million under budget.

FCC SCR Project, Chevron, El Segundo, CA. Senior Project Manager. 2006-2008. TIC $60,000,000. Managed from feasibility through detailed engineering and procurement for this $60 million (TIC) compliance project.

Koniambo FBR Project, Falconbridge (Xstrata Nickel), New Caledonia, French Republic. Senior Project Manager. 2006-2007. TIC $15,000,000. Supervised the preparation of proposals and managed design, procurement, and construction of $10-15 million (lump sum) fluid bed reduction (FBR) furnaces for nickel refining.

Urea to Ammonia Hydrolyzer, Wahlco, Santa Ana, CA. Senior Project Manager. 2006. TIC $10,000,000. Managed pollution control equipment design and manufacture on projects up to $10 million. Responsible for individual project client interface, technical supervision, sales support, profit and loss, schedule, budget, and change control.

Cell 3 Project, Desert Valley Company Monofill, Calipatria, CA. Project Manager. 2005. TIC $9 million. Managed the completion of a 17-acre landfill designed to Class I standards for the Desert Valley Company Monofill. Took over project in disarray and managed it to successful completion with net saving over $2 million in TIC. Drove project to completion within one week of the closing of existing landfill cells, allowing uninterrupted operation of the landfill resulting is substantial savings to the CalEnergy geothermal plants. The Desert Valley Company Monofill, is owned and operated by CalEnergy, a subsidiary of MidAmerican Holdings.

Yucca Mountain High Level Nuclear Waste Repository, U.S. Department of Energy, Las Vegas, NV. Senior Engineer Specialist. 2003-2005. US $20 Billion. Conceptual design development and documentation for high level waste handling and decontamination in support of NRC license application preparation. Demonstrated expertise on design of hot cell facilities, low level waste handling, application of remote robotic handling for high level waste, shipment of radioactive waste, and decontamination.

Altamira III & IV Project, Ibedrola Energia, Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Senior Process Engineer, 2002. TIC $550 million. Technical verification of plant design: natural gas fired, two unit plant (double 2-on-1 configuration) with a salt water mechanical draft cooling tower. Identified flaw in the natural gas fuel system design preventing a 2 to 4 month delay and avoiding potential liquidated damages for delay of completion (up to $60 million).

Transalta Project, Transalta Campeche S.A. de C.V., Palizada, Campeche State, Mexico. Senior Process Engineer. 2002. TIC $130 million. Technical verification of plant design: single shaft MHI W501F plant. Identified flaw in the natural gas fuel system design preventing a 2 to 4 month delay and avoiding potential liquidated damages for delay of completion (up to $60 million).

Moss Landing Power Plant Project, Duke Energy, Moss Landing California. Senior Process Engineer, 1999-2001. TIC $550 million. Lead Process Engineer with extensive multi-disciplinary coordination and responsibilities on the first major utility fossil fired power plant project constructed in California in decades. Responsible for design of these merchant power units with extremely low heat rates (6,200 Btu/kW). Project configuration: two-unit combined cycle power plant on a brown field site. Two unit, double 2-on-1 configuration; reheat steam cycle, once through seawater cooling tied into existing operating facilities.

South Bay CC Units 1 and 2, Duke Energy North America, Chula Vista CA. 1999. Senior Process Engineer. Lead engineer for this merchant power plant on a brown field site. Two-unit, dual two on one configuration in each unit, duct fired, reheat steam cycle, sea water cooling, black start and distillate backup fuel. Produced design package in support of the California Application for Certificate (AFC).

Western Midway Sunset Combined Cycle Plant, Mission-Edison Energy J.V. with Midway Sunset Cogeneration. Kern County, California. 1999. Senior Process Engineer. Lead engineer on nominal 520 MW combined cycle development proposal. Merchant power plant. Two on one configuration in each unit, reheat steam cycle, fresh water cooling. . Produced the design package in support of the California Energy Commission (CEC) Application for Certificate (AFC).

AES Torrance CHP, AES, Mobil Refinery, Torrance, CA. 1999. Senior Process Engineer. Authored paper defining the parameters for utilization of Mobil refinery fuel gas in advanced combustion turbines.

Boeing Central Plant Boiler Replacement, MacDonald Douglas Facility, Duke Energy Solutions, Huntington Beach, CA. Senior Process Engineer. 1999. TIC $6 million. Developed a design for a large central plant featuring hot water boilers and new mechanical chillers to replace existing steam boilers and turbine driven chillers for HVAC. The innovative design produced a $2 million annual reduction in projected operating cost.

IPEC Port Kembla Works CHP Project, BHP Steel, Wollongong, Australia. Senior Process Engineer. 1999. TIC $350 million. Developed a cost effective CHP design for replacing the existing steel mill boiler house. The design included complex time-dependent utilization of byproduct gases including blast furnace gas (BFG) coke oven gas (COG) basic oxygen steel process off gas (BOS OG) in multi-fuel boilers, export of very high reliability steam and power to the BHP Port Kembla Works with excess and peaking merchant power capability. This project replaced the entire existing mill steam and power generation systems at no cost to the mill yet within profit margins required by the developer.

Dearborn Industrial Generation LLC, DTS Energy Services and CMS Energy Corp Partnership, Dearborn, MI. Senior Process Engineer. 1998. TIC $240 million. Integrated utilization of the Rouge Steel Works (Dearborn Michigan) byproduct blast furnace gas, natural gas, and developed the steam cycle and power generation design as lead proposal engineer. Unique design generates an average of 550 MW for export from a combination of combined cycle and boiler raised steam. Steam let down through a steam turbine generator is exported to drive the Rouge Steel Blast Furnace air blowers and to heat the adjacent Ford Rouge Assembly Plant.

Amoco Whiting Cogeneration Project, Primary Energy, East Chicago, IN. Senior Process Engineer. 1997. TIC $220 million Prepared extensive refinery steam and fuel gas heat and material balances for BP Amoco Whiting refinery as lead engineer and project integrator. Identified fuel gas imbalance that had limited summer gasoline production at the refinery. Developed a competitive cogeneration design that met the needs and financial goals of the refinery and project developer.

Conoco Karlsruhe Cogeneration Proposal, Conoco Global Power, Karlsruhe Refinery, Karlsruhe, Germany. Senior Process Engineer. 1997. Prepared energy and steam balances to develop a cogeneration proposal to replace existing refinery boilers. Design included a variety of oil and gas fuels, integration with existing units that produced and/or consumed steam at seven different pressure levels with excess steam devoted to production of merchant export power.

Frontera Project, CSW Generation, Mission, Texas. Senior Process Engineer. 1977. TIC $220 million. Created the heat and material balance model for equipment integration on this 500 MW 2 on 1 (7FA + ABB STG) merchant combined cycle power plant with a reheat steam cycle.

Cokenergy, Primary Energy, Inland Steel Works, Indiana Harbor, Indiana. Senior Process Engineer. 1996. TIC $30 million. Technical lead for heat recovery steam utilization, power generation, and water utilities supporting a new 1.3 million ton per year Sun Coal non-recovery type coke oven. Design featured nominal 100 MW condensing multi-level extraction steam turbine generator.

Relocation of Ammonia Plant, Dakota Gasification Company, Buelah, North Dakota. Process Engineer II, 1995. TIC $26 million. Relocation of existing ammonia plant to Buelah ND including design modifications to utilize gasification product synthesis gas as feed to the relocated ammonia plant.

Demand Production of Hydrogen Sulfide, Kerr McGee, Henderson, NV. Process Engineer II. 1995. Kerr McGee requested a review of processes available for on-demand production of small quantities of hydrogen sulfide. After a review of literature and patents a novel process design was developed based on modification of existing art.

Technical Liaison, Primary Energy, Merrillville, IN. Engineer II. 1995-1996. Lead a team of up to 7 process and mechanical engineers supporting as many as 10 proposals simultaneously for a wide variety of CHP (cogeneration) applications while functioning as technical lead and primary technical contact between NIPSCO (Primary Energy) and Fluor.

Chevron Reformulated Gasoline Project, Chevron Inc., El Segundo, CA. Process Engineer II. 1995. TIC N/A. Independently researched Chevron refinery sour water system to determine impact of RFG modifications on the sour water system. Identified a systemic problem in the sour water system which limited refinery throughput. Worked closely with the client to develop recommendations for cost effective modifications to increase the sour water system capacity.

Delayed Coking Unit Relief System, Texaco, Inc., Bakersfield Refinery, Bakersfield, CA. Process Engineer II. 1995. TIC N/A. Conducted an evaluation of the relief system and developed documentation to meet PSM requirements for the Delayed Coker Unit. Changes in operations required a re-evaluation of the recently modified unit. The existing equipment was found adequate for the new mode of operation.

Reformulated Gasoline Project, Texaco, Inc., Texaco Los Angeles Refinery, Wilmington, CA. Process Engineer II. 1994. TIC $25 million. Responsible for the FCC unit Recovery Section revamp to support higher light ends production. Design featured a new depentanizer tower added to the existing FCC unit. This depentanizer tower included a state of the art integral catalytic hydrogenation section (CD HYDRO) for the removal of dienes from C3 alkylation feed stock. Assignment included field verification of both the FCC Unit and the Alkylation Unit piping and instrument diagrams.

Initiative 1A – Reduce Design Margins, Fluor Daniel, Inc., Irvine, CA. Process Engineer II. 1994. Identified modification to shell and tube heat exchanger design procedure used by refining industry world-wide which has the potential to reduce shell and tube heat transfer equipment cost by an average of 10-20 % (equivalent to a 5% reduction in overall equipment cost on a typical refinery unit).

Weapons Complex Reconfiguration Project, U.S Department of Energy, Washington, D.C. Process Engineer II. 1991-1993. $6 billion annual budget. Compiled and edited the Design Guidance Manual (DGM) which established the functions and requirements applicable to the United States nuclear weapons complex and established the detailed criteria for the various components of the reconfigured weapons complex.

Lagoven Delayed Coker Project, Lagoven - Amuay Refinery, Amuay, Venezuela. Process Engineer II. 1991-1993 (overtime basis) TIC $18 million. Evaluated the entire refinery flare system revisited credible relief scenarios, conducted hydraulics and thermal radiation from the maximum relief case for the Lagoven Amuay Refinery (630,000 BPD). Multiple unit additions, upgrades, and a change in operations drove the need to add a new flare and modify the existing flare header system.

WEPCO New Generation Technology, Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Milwaukee, WI. Process Engineer II. 1991. $100,000. Authored definitive report on gasification and integrated gasification combined cycle (GCC) technologies in support of the strategic planning process at WEPCO. The report included extensive background information on gasification technology and design issues for the GCC power generation.

ECONAMINE FGSM process, Fluor Daniel, Inc., Irvine, CA. Process Engineer II, 1991. TIC N/A. Responded to numerous inquiries for budget level estimates, utility requirements, material balances, etc. in support of sales efforts for the Fluor owned flue gas CO2 recovery - ECONAMINE FGSM process.

Heavy Oil Gasification GCC Study, Neste Oil, Keilaranta, Espoo, Finland. Process Engineer II, 1991. TIC Study. Evaluated heavy sour oil gasification (partial oxidation) with combined cycle power production comparing Texaco (GE) to Lurgi (Shell) gasification. Investigated air-blown vs. oxygen-blown gasification.

Cool Water Project, Texaco, Inc., Barstow, CA. Process Engineer II, 1991. TIC Study Responsible for low temperature gas cooling section design evaluation, equipment modification, and flow sheet review. Project scope was intended to update the Cool Water gasification combined cycle (GCC) demonstration power plant to meet more stringent environmental requirements.

Zero Aqueous Process Discharge, Shell Oil Company, Houston, TX. Process Engineer I, 1990. TIC Report. Evaluation and design of a zero aqueous discharge water treatment plan for a generic Shell gasifier plant. Delivered presentation to Shell in Houston on process waste water treating which developed into a request by Shell for the Zero Aqueous Process Discharge Report.

Engineering and Economic Evaluation of CO2 Removal From Fossil-Fuel-Fired Power Plants, Electric Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA. Process Engineer I, 1990. $120,000 study. Evaluated coal fired supercritical power plant retrofit to capture carbon dioxide. Published ground breaking EPRI report on the total installed cost and penalty to overall efficiency of capturing carbon dioxide from stack gas.

Multiple Projects, Aqua Chem Inc., Milwaukee, WI. Process Engineer, 1987-1989. TIC $250,000 to $2 million. Applications engineering, preliminary design, detailed design, and start-up of evaporation systems. Applications for numerous waste water cleanups (including organic and/or inorganic contaminants), calcium sulfate seeded slurry evaporators (power plant waste water), ethylene glycol recovery and purification, glycerin (sweet water) evaporators, pharmaceutical ethanol solvent recovery, desalination, and food products including mannose sugar, coffee, licorice, stick water, and tobacco juice extract.
