WORK EXPERIENCE

University of Pittsburgh, Department of Emergency Medicine Pittsburgh, PA Clinical Research Associate/Coordinator May 2016 – Present Took over day to day operations of the TRAC II pilot study as a research associate from day one. Completed enrollment of 50 subjects from the UPMC Mercy Hospital’s Emergency Department in under 30 days, while focusing on scientific integrity and adherence to standard operating procedures, with over 80% of participants opting to continue using study resources even after study term had ceased. Launched a cutting-edge pilot study that utilized mobile interventions to aid early relapse prevention for opiate addicts requesting detoxification presenting in the Emergency Department . Entrusted as Primary Coordinator for a phase 3 clinical trial – aimed at recruiting over 1800 subjects – after only 6 months with the clinical research team. Devised and implemented the standard operating procedures for screening, enrollment, and follow-up. Troubleshot technical issues with I.T., worked closely with the administrative side to develop a project budget, and consulted on the informed consent documents. Critically analyzed and interpreted the usability of key program features and overall study feasibility to suggest active modifications to the study procedure and IRB documentation, which were deemed essential and implemented by the Principal Investigator.

• Co-Investigator of 4 Emergency Medicine Research Studies, with duties including, but not limited to: Training, enrollment (including informed consent), payment, recorded interviews, maintaining follow-ups, bi-monthly update meetings, IRB proposal renewals, statistical analysis, and contributing authorship on study publications, as well as delegation of tasks and scheduling with research assistants.

• Self-taught STATA software, which was used to analyze data and provide critical interpretation of significance of various statistics that led to the primary figures used in a published research paper.

• Continually reaching out to other Principal Investigators in the department to assist with data entry, basic statistical analysis, record maintenance, and preparation of study documents for analysis/publication. Multidisciplinary Acute Care Research Organization Pittsburgh, PA Clinical Research Intern (Paid) Mar 2014 – April 2016 Monitor all incoming emergency department patients at up to three hospitals, via the clinical management system EPIC, assessing each patient’s eligibility for over ten clinical studies Facilitate the patient consent and/or enrollment processes for active research studies in person, including discussing studies with nurses and physicians and explaining study information and consent documents to patients and patients’ families

• Maintain constant professional communication with nurses, attending physicians, and study coordinators Apply practical and advanced laboratory skills: Aseptic technique, Micro-pipetting, centrifugation, aliquoting plasma, sample storage, lab station sanitization, use and care of a Thrombelastograph (TEG) Analyzer, and proper disposal of hazardous materials Continuously learn and adapt to new laboratory techniques, requirements for study eligibility, changes in procedure, and an ever-growing array of active studies Train potential assistants to utilize the patient screening software, proper data recording, proficient communication with hospital staff, and supplemental study education to become an effective member of the research team
