Purpose of the position is to build the capacity of the district health team for communicable disease control through early detection of potential outbreaks of key epidemic prone diseases and appropriate response. The DEWS Surveillance Officer will provide technical assistance to the district health department. Represent WHO for collaboration and coordination with Department of Health and health partners on technical and strategic matters relating to development of effective disease surveillance and response. I performed the following responsibilities:

Coordinate with provincial and district health teams, vertical programs, emergency and other partners to assign proper preparedness against disease outbreaks and emergencies including stockpiling supplies, training of response teams, and relevant assessments.

Establish and monitor DEWS sentinel sites in each union council of their district or assigned area as required.

Facilitate collection and compilation of weekly DEWS data and data entry to online system, analyze, interpret data, assess and monitor the disease patterns, publish weekly report.

Detect disease threats, verify and communicate rapidly with the appropriate level to trigger investigation and response where required.

Coordinate and lead the outbreak investigations, specimen collection and shipment; collect descriptive data, apply statistical and analytical methods to develop a hypothesis and test it.

Confirm disease outbreaks or health emergencies and coordinate public health measures and case management response in hospital and field situations all over the district or assigned area.
