Was hand selected to go onboard as First Engineer on the HSV-2 Swift – a 325’ high speed ferry converted for
the U.S. Navy. Extensive repairs, overhaul and improvements on all systems including (4) special high speed
CATS @ 9854 hp each and (4) CAT 3406 generators. Passed all COI, DNV and quality inspections.
Completed 4-month tour on the Captain Steven L. Bennett in Diego Garcia – got engine room ready for 4
month tour to the USA - repaired many problems that nobody could fix. 4 months M/V Black Eagle.
2007 – 2008 “USNS Gordon” (LMSR – B&W Diesels – 3 main engines – reversing pitch propeller) –
Licensed First Engineer – Hired as 3rd A/E. Offered 1st A/E position shortly thereafter. Extensive repairs
on 3416 Caterpillar generators.
2005- 2007 “USNS Shughart” ( LMSR- B&W Diesel) Licensed First Engineer/ Relief Chief Engineer. ROS/FOS. Major
repairs/overhauls on all systems. Extensive machining, electrical and A/C repairs. Single,12 cylinder Man B&W
main and auxiliary engines. (3) Caterpillar 3416 auxiliary engines. Experience in vibrational analysis, SAMM
maintenance system. Experience with drydock, sea trials and passed 5-year “COI”, annual C.G. inspections and
internal / external audits.
2004 – 2005 “Chemical Pioneer“ (Chemical Steam Tanker) Licensed First Engineer. Responsible for all shipboard repairs,
maintenance and engine room operation.
2003 - 2004 “ S.S. CURTIS & S.S. WRIGHT” (ROS - steam) // MAERSK LINES – M/V GEORGIA ( diesel) – Licensed Second
Engineer . Dayworker - performed major repairs on all systems. Extensive machining on various equipment.
2000 – 2003 S.S. L.N.G Leo, Gemini & Taurus (Liquified Natural Gas Carrier) Licensed First Engineer/Cargo Engineer.
Responsible for all cargo/engine room related maintenance, repair, calibrations and cargo transfer. Brought the
LNG Taurus into and out of the Nagasaki shipyard. Performed major inspections and repairs on all cargo and
engine room systems. Passed sea trials with flying colors – “Clean Sweep”!
1997 – 2000 “C.S. Global Mariner” (Transoceanic Cable Laying Ship) Licensed First and Second Assistant Engineer.
Major overhaul experience on “KaMeWa” bow/stern thrusters, main and auxiliary “Wartzilla” engines.
Extensive experience in shipyards, sea trials, vibration analysis and machining and fabrication. Was first to
initiate a program for Engineer’s to machine intake and exhaust valves onboard.
1995 – 1996 “Flickertail State” (Marad Tac-5 Crane Ship) Licensed Second Assistant Engineer. Responsible for two 900
lb. boilers and associated equipment. Employed 1 year and 1 month in ROS / FOS status.
1994 “Equality State” (Marad Tac-5 Crane Ship – Activation) Licensed Third Assistant Engineer.
1994 “Northern Lights” (R.O.R.O.) Licensed Third Assistant Engineer. Six months.
1993 “Sealift Caribbean” (United States Naval Tanker) Licensed Second Assistant Engineer. Responsible for waste heat and
steam generating 200 lb. boilers. Extensive repairs on “Fairbanks-Morse” diesel generator engines and
“Enterprise” main propulsion engines. Two months.
1992 “U.S.T. Pacific” (Largest Oil Tanker built in Western Hemisphere) Licensed Third Assistant Engineering Officer.
Responsible for the proper operation of the 45,000 horsepower steam turbine power plant while on watch
standing duty. Extensive maintenance and overhaul on all systems. Worked 84 hours a week on the 390,000
DWT tanker for 5-1/2 months. (Two Tours)
1991 “O.M.I. Columbia” (875’ Oil tanker - B&W Diesel w/ 600 lb. steam plant) Licensed Third
Assistant Engineering Officer (U.S. Merchant Marine). Responsible for the proper
operation of a “Burmiester and Wain” 18,500 horsepower main propulsion diesel power
plant and auxiliary machinery in the engine room while on watch standing duty. Non-watch
standing duties include total responsibility of diesel generators (Diahatsu). Experience in
shipyard, sea trial and Coast Guard inspections. Ten months.

1982 – 1990 U.S. Merchant Marine. Sailed in the engine department of most types of American flag merchant vessels in the
following unlicensed capacities: Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Oiler, Fireman/Watertender, Q.M.E.D.,
Machinist, Chief Electrician, Chief Pumpman, and Junior Engineer. Note: In all positions, I worked a total
of 84 hours per week for a usual tour of four to ten months.
1984 – 1985 Martin Marietta, Aero and Naval Systems (Baltimore Aerospace Division) 301-***-****)
Class 2 Machinist. Employee No. 19217. Set-up and operated vertical and horizontal milling machines. Working from
blueprints, machined close tolerance parts for projects such as the DC-10, B1-B Bombers, Vertical Launching
Systems, Titan I, II missile, thrust fan reverser. Was hand picked to machine “Titanium” parts for the “Hard
Mobile Launcher” program. Transferred and worked in the Tool and Die Department before leaving. One year
and four months.
1983 American Hawaii Cruises (900’ passenger liner) Hawaii. Machinist. Performed all machine work in the engine room.
Designed, fabricated and machined close tolerance, obsolete, specialized parts for all ships machinery and
pumps using milling machine, shaper and lathe. Supervised personnel in the installation, alignment and
operation of the above. 84 hours per week for 10 months. One of the last genuine machinist`s positions in the
U.S. Merchant Marine.
1981 – 1982 Best Battery Co. Inc., Highlandtown, MD 301-***-****). Auto Mechanic. Hired to rebuild automotive
starters, alternators, generators, and carburetors. After one month, promoted to auto mechanic. Performed
installation of exhaust, brakes and tune-ups. Also, rebuilt engines to stock specifications. Specialized in
troubleshooting auto electrical systems. One year and six months.
1979 – 1981 Ward Machinery Company, Cockeysville, MD 301-***-****). Machinist. Working from blueprints operated
vertical and horizontal milling machines, lathe, numerical controlled drilling machines, cylindrical, surface and
blanchard grinding machines. Note: Held tolerances as close as .0003”. Performed own set-ups. One year and
eight months.
