Job Description

Scrub nurse prepares sterile instrument and equipment ready for the procedure

Before the procedure:

1. Check the requirements for the procedure with the clinical radiologist and

collect any special equipment & instrument needed

2. Checking & receiving the right patient

3. Chech if the patient has given inform consent

4 .Confirm with the patient & clinical radiologist the current procedure site, side of

the intervention

5. Ensure that the patient is placed on the radiology table

6. Drape the trolly with sterile drapes & assemble all the things needed with or with

out pre- packed sets, and other necessary sterile equipment with assistance of

the circulating nurse

7. Skin preparation and draping under sterile aseptic technique

8. Dispense catheters, swab & other equipment as needed, check & replace

9 .Keep an accurate account of catheters, wires, blades, collected during the

procedure & make sure that drugs in syringes are labeled appropriately

After the procedure:

1. Check appropriate wound dressing

2. Removes drapes and if there is catheter or drainage tube, ensure it is left in situ &

secured that hemostasis has been achieved

3. Dispose of all contaminated materials .ensure that that the area around the wound

dressing to clean & patient gown sheet are clean

4. Hand over to the ward nurse post procedure & instruct documentation of the

procedure

13. Checks all admission data with newly admitted patients to ensure accuracy of

14. Labels and prepares Laboratory and Radiology slips for physician and nurses’ files

results in the appropriate patient medical chart.

15. Makes clinic appointments for discharged patients.

16. Makes appointments for patients receiving treatment and tests at the hospital.

17. Orders supplies from the storehouse and coordinates maintenance and repairs in the

unit.

18. Notifies appropriate support departments of pending discharges. (Bed control clerk,

pharmacy, medical record).

19. Notifies appropriate support departments of verified patient discharges, emergency

admission, deaths and transfer.

20. Collates the discharge charts and ensures all patient information is included.

21. Reviews all medical charts on a routine basis to check for completeness (nurses’ notes,

physicians’ orders, etc.).

22. Prepares diet request slips.

23. Greets and directs all visitors and distributes mail, flower, et. To patients.

24. Answers telephone calls in the unit.

25. Arranges transportation for diagnostic tests internally and externally.
