Research:
Tranalational and post-translational regulation of Hemeoxygenease -1 in response to
PlGF.
Towards MS Thesis: (September 2012 to May 2013)
Placental Growth Factor mediated transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of
Hemeoxygenase-1. PlGF levels are elevated in patients with sickle cell disease.
My research involved studying the response of the endothelial cells to PlGF, from initiation of
cell signalling till post translational effect on the HO-1 mRNA.
Isolation and Genetic characterization of Hepatic tumor initiating stem cells.
Previous graduate research (January 2012 to August 2012)
Characterization of Human and Mouse hepatic Tumor Initiating stem cells freshly isolated
from mice. Colony formation assays, methylation studies and karyotyping performed.
Maintained stable transformed cell lines in BSL 2+ facility.
Cytogenetic analysis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia
(January 2011 to June 2011)
Under geneticist Dr. Bani Bandana Ganguly,MGM Hospital, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, India.
The project involved culturing of cells from blood and bone marrow samples of patients and
examining them for cytological abnormalities and profile their karyograms.
2
Skills involved:
microRNA isolation Plasmid construction and purification
Gene promoter and 3’UTR sequence construct synthesis
qRT-PCR for miRNA and
mRNA
Bacterial transformation RNA extraction
Human cell transfection Protein extraction and western blot analysis
Cell culture (Primary. Karyotyping, genotyping
Transformed, Hematopoetic,
Stem cells and cancer cell
lines.)
