Oak Grove Elementary School and Firwood High School is a year round special educational environment
for patients who are admitted to the Child Study and Treatment Center. Students from the community with
challenging behavioral disabilities also attend the school during the normal school year. The Child Study
and Treatment Center is an accredited children’s psychiatric hospital operated by the Washington
Department of Social and Health Services .The CSTC provides a totally secure mental health treatment
program in an inpatient setting for children and adolescents. The para-educator, under the supervision of the
special education teacher or specialist, is present to help provide specialized instructional opportunities for
students with behavioral difficulties and psychiatric illnesses in a normalized classroom setting.
Responsibilities include:
• Assist the special education teachers to deliver quality services to students who have disabilities.
• Implement the educational programs developed through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.
• Perform daily activities using specific materials, methods and material modifications designed by the
special education teacher and support personnel to help effectively teach students at their own pace.
• Responsible for planning, providing, and evaluating varied learning experiences of students in
cooperation with other staff members, parents, and the public.
