expectations of all employers as well as the policies, programs, and
benefits available to eligible staff.
Introductory Statement
This handbook is designed to acquaint you with (insert "the") Ebenezer
Child provide you with information about the working conditions,
employee benefits, and (omit "some of the") policies affecting your
employment. Please read, understand, and comply with all the provisions of
the handbook, which describes many of your responsibilities as an employee
and outlines the programs developed by ECDC to benefit its employees. Once
of our objectives is to provide a work environment that is conducive to
both personal and professional growth.
*Break this sentence up into two. * As the ECDC continues to grow, the need
may arise to adapt and change accordingly. The Center reserves the right
to revise, supplement, or rescind any policies or portion of the handbook
from...etc.
Employee Acknowledgement Form
In 2nd Paragraph( All revision(s) ( insert "s" at the end of revision.
Table of Contents
There should be consistency in the lettering/numbering of the items
that are listed below certain sections. This numbering or lettering should
also reflect in the document. I think roman numerals would be better than
just letters.
After reading it through, maybe omit the numbering/lettering altogether
unless necessary with the specific sections. Do not mark them as such in
the table of contents.
The ordering should be changed. The Discipline, dismissals, and grievances
section should be at the end of the handbook.
First should be the New Employees Requirements, then Staff Guidelines
/Policies, followed by Compensation, then Benefits, and concluding with the
Disciplinary section.
Calendar
This calendar should be comprehensive of the year's operational dates, in
addition to the closure dates.
Include at the bottom of the page the dates that the Center will be closed.
A page just of closures seems almost unnecessary; having an operating
calendar makes more sense to me.
Policies and Procedures for Discipline, Dismissal, and Grievances of
Employees.
Six month probationary period? It takes that long to see if someone is fit
for the position? While we're on the subject, "month" does not need to be
plural
C. What is unacceptable conduct? Clarify and explain exactly, especially as
it pertains to those being served by the Center.
E. "Affected Employee Pursuant" feels redundant, get rid of pursuant, as
I'm sure it's not a real word.
Maybe clarify that the "time limits" will be discussed. Or maybe
actually introduce that there is a time limit in place for filing an
appeal. (This is before the second sentence of the first paragraph of this
section.
Where should the employee send or and in the appeal? Give this
answer.
*If the employee is not satisfied with the initial decision of their
written appeal, the employee may present a written request for a hearing
before the Board of Directors. In the next sentence " and/or why the
initial decision of the officials should be changed" this is how the fist
two sentences should read it's less colloquial.
Compensation
Time off- how much advance notice should an employee give?
Benefits
Asterisk next to the programs that require contributions from the
employee
