Experience
Plainfield Municipal Utilities Commission - Plainfield, NJ 2002 - 2012
Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
. Began as assistant superintendent in 2002 and progressed up to
superintendent.
. As superintendent, I oversaw the Fleet Maintenance, Container
Maintenance and Repair/Property Maintenance departments.
. Opened and closed operating facilities daily, kept operations up and
running with necessary equipment and staff.
. Managed 10 employees, including 1 super, 4 techs and 5 helpers
. Directed day-to-day operations of scheduling, inventory control and
maintenance requirements for all company vehicles, dump trucks,
loaders, roll-off transporter, sewer jet vehicles, and generators.
. Defined project scope, secured corporate approval and funding,
solicited contractor quotes, selected contractors, oversaw & managed
contractors' work and managed combined budget of $2.5M.
. Developed a standard operating program for each department I managed,
which had to be submitted for state approval through DEP and EPA.
Reports submitted included detailed explanation of how daily
operations were executed.
. I implemented a preventive maintenance program that allowed us to
convert repair dollar savings into capital dollars for new equipment
purchases. Capitalized on municipal lease loans with extended-out
warranties for the term of the lease to ease financial burden and
equipment downtime. Reduced our maintenance cost on the heavy truck
side from $18,000 per truck per year to $7,000. Reduced our outside
maintenance contracts from $830K/yr. to $329K/yr.
. Developed bid specs on heavy equipment trucks, buildings, body &
chassis, light truck & car leases. Worked with our engineers to
establish the specs tailored to our specific needs.
. Partnered successfully with Finance Department and communicated the
importance of the municipal lease program which allowed us to upgrade
equipment with warranty protection. A substantial trade-in value for
each vehicle further reduced lease payment values by trading every 5
years. It comes down to maintenance and repair dollars vs. capital
investment dollars which resulted in a savings of $3.65 to $1.00, a
big number in this day and time.
