OBJECTIVE
Seeking an entry-level career advancing chemist position in
wet and/or dry chemistry.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE
. Computational study of Hemetsberger-Knittel reaction - Senior
Project
The Hemetsberger-Knittel indole synthesis was studied via
computational methods. Outcome: Radical species in the reaction
were found to be unstable under several levels of computational
theory.
. Analysis of magnesium phytoremediation through sunflowers
Sunflowers were studied for the ability to hyperaccumulate
magnesium ions from soil. Outcome: Sunflowers were effective at
this, containing more magnesium by weight when grown in soil with
a higher concentration of the ion.
. Analysis of iron leaching through cooking in cast iron cookware
Iron leaching from cast iron cookware was studied. Outcome:
Acidic food leached more iron vs. non-acidic control.
. Analysis of ions in cooking salts
Cooking salts were analyzed for ion content. Outcome:
Levels of sodium chloride were similar among different salts.
. Analysis of group I and II cations in soil runoff water
Soil samples were used to prepare simulated runoff water. Outcome:
The runoff contained high levels of K+ and Mg2+ ions.
