• My
goals
were
to
learn
how
to
read
and
understand
blueprint
sketches
and
floor
plans
as
well
as
transposing
these
blueprints
to
autoCAD.
I
also
needed
to
learn
how
to
create
autoCAD
drawings
according
to
customer
requirements.
My
main
goal
was
to
gain
useful
information
in
the
engineering
field,
from
people
in
the
field.
• My
mentors
were
able
to
pass
valuable
information
about
interpreting
what
the
customer’s
requirements
are
and
how
to
implement
these
requirements.
They
were
able
to
explain
autoCad
and
teach
tips
and
tricks
for
more
efficient
work.
I
got
to
work
with
each
part
of
the
office
so
that
I
could
get
a
holistic
view
of
an
engineering
firm.
• Through
the
internship
I
was
able
to
transpose
various
drawings
as
well
as
create
a
handful
of
specific
plans
for
customers.
For
example,
we
calculated
how
high
of
a
retaining
wall
was
necessary
if
an
oil
reservoir
were
to
leak
out,
figure
out
where
pilings
were
necessary
for
a
building,
and
design
some
of
the
docks
and
structures
on
Chelsea
Piers.
Engineering
project
work
In
groups
we
were
assigned
various
different
projects
including:
Reverse
engineering
a
waffle
maker
to
improve
its
design.
After
weekly
meetings
we
recreated
the
product
with
our
changes
in
a
Solid
Edge
model.
A
World
Bank
research
project
to
make
the
Mexico
City
public
transportation
system
more
efficient.
We
brainstormed
and
concluded
on
which
would
be
most
beneficial
with
the
least
cost.
We
made
a
presentation
explaining
how
electric
bus
motors
can
pull
power
from
piezoelectric
pads
and
regenerative
brakes.
We
also
designed
an
electromagnetically
assisted
driveshaft
to
take
load
off
the
engine,
saving
gas
and
reducing
pollution.
Designed
and
constructed
a
wireless
covert
listening
device
by
using
an
empty
Pringles
can.
We
created
a
sales
pitch
for
our
product
and
were
required
to
“sell”
it
to
the
professors.
Presented
three
separate
case
studies
to
the
class.
The
first
consisted
of
finding
the
optimal
way
to
plow
three
different
fields
considering
money,
time
and
the
possibility
of
outsourcing.
In
another
case
study
we
had
to
make
decisions
about
an
assembly
line,
bottleneck
and
batch
sizes.
In
the
third
case
we
determined
the
optimal
way
for
a
company
to
order,
assemble
and
sell
products
considering
money
and
inventory
control.
Sensitivity
analysis
was
required
in
each
case.
Conducted
an
experiment
regarding
the
life
of
roses
in
different
conditions.
We
then
did
ANOVA
analysis
to
determine
which
factors
were
significant
and
if
there
were
main
effects.
Designed
a
“Smartband”
that
is
capable
of
taking
attendance,
unlocking
buildings,
paying
for
meals,
answering
questions
in
class
and
holding
personal
information.
We
provided
all
of
the
functional
and
business
requirements
as
well
as
cost
analysis
and
house
of
quality.
Used
ARENA
to
simulate
the
Moe’s
restaurant
in
Binghamton.
We
calculated
arrival
and
process
times
of
each
station
and
optimized
the
simulation
with
respect
to
queue
time
and
the
total
number
of
customers
moving
through
the
system.
Optquest
and
ARENA’s
process
analyzer
were
used
to
find
the
most
efficient
amount
of
workers
needed
at
each
station.
