ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
2006 - 2008 Master of Science ( Public Health
Walden University, Minneapolis, Minnesota
1990 -1993 Master of Science - Health Sciences (Major: Developmental
Biology, Minor: Genetics),
Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts.
1980 -1984 Bachelor of Science - Biology, Chemistry.
St. Bede's College, Himachal Pradesh University, Simla, India.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2003 - Present Senior Research Technologist
Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Cytogenetics Core
Laboratory, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston,
Massachusetts.
Organized and set-up the Core laboratory from its infancy.
Managed the laboratory for six years. Developed protocol
for paraffin FISH currently being used by the Cytogenetics
Core Laboratory. Conducted weekly laboratory staff
meetings. Recruited and trained new employees; trained
graduate students and post doctoral fellows in special
techniques for their dissertation and laboratory projects.
Developed and facilitated Cytogenetics workshop for
prospective Harvard Medical School students. Manage
laboratory budget. Provide consultation to researchers
using the Core facility and assist them in writing
protocols for their publications. Perform specialized
techniques like FISH, M-FISH, cell culturing, and
karyotyping human and murine species. Conduct preclinical
trials using genetic biomarkers for lung and breast cancer.
Trouble-shoot complex experiments and develop their
protocol; data analysis; write reports on experiments
conducted. Conduct probe validation experiments for Agilent
Technologies. Assist in Clinical Laboratory Improvement
Amendments (CLIA) certification processes for the
laboratory.
1997 - 2002 Stay at home mom of two
1990 - 1996 Senior Technologist
Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory, Brigham & Women's
Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.
Managed the peripheral blood sub-division of the clinical
laboratory. Work entailed culturing, harvesting,
karyotyping, and analyses of peripheral blood
lymphocytes from infants with dysmorphic features or
families with known or unknown Cytogenetic
aberrations. Coached residents and students;
responsible for Purchase & Management (P&M) for the
laboratory; member of the BioSafety Committee for
the Department of Pathology for compliance with OSHA
guidelines, conducting safety site-visits for the department.
1987- 1989 Technologist
Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory, Brigham & Women's
Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.
Responsible for culturing, harvesting, karyotyping, and
analyzing clinical solid-tissue samples. Worked with
Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH); conducted
research on confined placental mosaic in intra-uterine
growth retarded (IUGR) infants; developed a protocol for
culturing and harvesting of solid-tissues which was adopted
and used successfully in our lab as well as other
Cytogenetics laboratories.
1985 - 1986 Research Technologist
Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Center for Genetics,
University Illinois, Chicago.
Responsible for sequencing Factor VIII & X for Hemophilia.
Work entailed making DNA, amplifying and digesting it with
restriction enzymes; running agarose and acryl amide gels;
performing Southern & Western blotting experiments on
patient samples.
