ANIMAL CARE TAKER TECHNICIAN

QUALIFICATTION AND EXPERIENCE:

Responsibilities:

Attended animals,such as mice,rats and frogs

Cleaned cages and pens

Examined animals for signs of illness and treated them according to instructions

Transferred animals between quarters

Adjusted controls to regulate temperature and humidity of animals'quaters

Receive, examine,transfer,identity,and properly housing incoming animals

shipments according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Provide food and water to animals following SOPS or approved protocols

Clean and sanitize animal facility and assigned rooms according to SOPs

Changes animal caging to include feed, bedding and water according to SOPs and

approved protocols.

Empty cages and wash cages.

Dump cages and prepare them for bedding.

Maintains daily animal census sheets,room equipment and status form sheets,and

other forms requested by the floor supervisor

Perform routine animal husbandry.

Sexes and weans animals according to SOP's.

CAGE WASH TECHNICIAN

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Responsibilities:

• Cleaning, sanitizing, or sterilizing caging or equipment utilizing automated cage wash

machines, autoclaves, bottle fillers, and bedding dump stations.

• Disposal of wastes in compliance with NIH/NIA and federal /state regulations.

• Cleaning and sanitizing cage wash and ancillary areas.

• Minor/preventative maintenance of caging and equipment.

• Movement/delivery of feed /bedding sacks, cages, racks, pants, carts, dollies, and

other.

• Assuring that procedures and practices involving the program of animal care are

appropriate for continued AAALA accreditation of the NIA-IRP facilities.

• Adherence to security procedures and confidentiality requirements.

• Ensuring performance of activities in adherence with established NIA-IRP SOPs.

• Participating in the ongoing employee training program, with special emphasis on

safety and health training, safe work practices, and use of personal protective

equipment.

• Performing job tasks/duties in compliance with NIH/NIA policies, regulations, safety,

and security procedures.

• Performing work in compliance with applicable safety requirements.

• Adherence to equipment sanitation and sterilization schedules.

• Assuring that record, log books, and other project records are appropriately and other

job duties as assigned.

• Machine operation and stoking.
