• Public Health Microbiology, Queensland Health

Conducted a broad molecular epidemiological survey of Vibrio cholerae O1 strains isolated from Queensland rivers. Responsible for study design, writing of research proposal and ethics applications.

Completed all technical work including but not limited to; DNA isolation and extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, MLST, MLVA, toxin gene typing, DNA sequencing and creation of novel virulence gene binary typing tailored to unique genetic profiles. Performed computer-based data analysis and statistical analysis on resultant data using programs such as BioNumerics, SPSS, ChromasPro and PeakScanner. Composed an academic thesis based on research with publication pending.

Volunteer Experience

• Endoscopy Clinic, Toronto General Hospital

2 years volunteer experience in the endoscopy clinic at Toronto General Hospital. Responsible for checking in patients, issuing hospital dress, stamping charts, booking future appointments and accompanying patients to and from procedure rooms.

• University of Toronto Blood Group/Canadian Blood Services

2 years as the clinic coordinator/liason. Worked with CBS to set up mobile donor clinics on campus. Duties included securing venues, printing and distributing flyers and posters, set up and takedown of equipment and handling of paperwork.

• Rick Hanson Wheels in Motion event in Toronto.

3 years volunteering setting up and taking down large event infrastructure, signing in participants, handling participant information packages/pledges and counting pledges after the event
