PROJECT AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Senior Design Project - Chevron Corporation

. Worked effectively with a team of five for a three-phase project which

involved: researching of general and alternative resources for

producing biodiesel, calculating costs and cultivation, and ultimately

discovering algae as an excellent source.

. Focused on saltwater algae in the Southwestern United States.

Recommended that a plant be built 300 miles east of Los Angeles, CA

that partially hydrogenates the algae oil. The basis was to produce

5000 barrels of biodiesel per day.

. Designed a pond based on over 75% daily harvesting of algae. The

majority of water is recycled back to the pond. A flocculation step is

used before dewatering. This stream is sent to saponification unit

creating soaps. The protein and carbohydrates are separated and sent

to biomass treatment. The Triacylglycerides are separated and sent to

partial hydrogenation. The partial hydrogenated TAGs will be carried

to refinery for complete hydrogenation. Any remaining biomass at 95%

conversion to gas will be sold.

. Recommended an economical analysis for Partial Hydrogenation plant.

The final building plans should take into account the capital cost

analysis, safety concerns for each process, and overall profitability

over a 25 year life span.

. Successfully completed project by the end of semester with a

presentation for the class, faculty and Chevron representatives.

. Led the group to make sure everybody did their part on time. Scheduled

different meeting before each due date. Helped other members of the

group to complete their work.

Snow Board Project

. Designed snowboard with ultimate tensile strength and small thickness.

Conducted trade-off study and analysis of different materials while

discovering which ones were more cost-effective.

Separation Project

. Created a distillation column to separate propane and propylene while

considering the internal and economics issues.

Ethanol Project

. Researched the economical feasibility of using corn to produce ethanol

as an alternative to gasoline.

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA

Aug. 2008 - Oct. 2008

Research Assistant

. Developed Anion exchange membrane for fuel cells batteries using

methanol as the fuel source. Primary objective was to resolve problems

associated with traditional PEM fuel cells.
