Acute Care Job Duties/Description:
Staff registered nurse role included complete care of the acutely ill adult patient in the intensive care unit. Design and implementation of individualized care plans, including plan modification when required. Patient assessment and utilization of critical thinking skills. Responsibilities included caring for patients on ventilators, managing chest tubes, maintaining patients on ordered vasoactive medications, insulin, heparin, and other intravenous infusions as well as titration per prescribed protocols. Other duties included assessment of emotional/psychosocial needs of the patient and family while incorporating identified needs into the plan of care. Maintenance of patient safety in nursing interventions and patient hygiene/comfort measures were also included in general duties.
