WORK EXPERIENCE Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse

Palmetto Health Heart Hospital: Murray Suite

Columbia, SC 29203

Nurse Manager: William Woods, RN

February 2009-Present

Delightfully, skillfully, and respectfully provide and

coordinate high-quality, compassionate care for an

assignment of four monitored patients on a high paced

floor with frequent patient turnover. Cardiac telemetry

nurses are required to assess and use impeccable judgment

to clearly and effectively communicate needs and changes

in status with every patient's physician, family, and the

members of various procedure areas to ensure smooth

patient progression from admission to proper diagnosis,

effective treatment, and appropriate discharge, with

scheduled follow up. Patients' cardiac diagnoses include

acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction,

systolic and diastolic heart failure both compensated and

decompensated, ventricular arrhythmias, and atrial

arrhythmias. Cardiac telemetry nurses also recover

patients from cardiac catheterizations, ablations, and

pacemaker implantations. They titrate medication drips

including nitroglycerin, heparin, argatroban, insulin,

amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine and dobutamine and perform

basic life support and advanced cardiac life support as

needed in acute situations. Additionally, cardiac

telemetry nurses educate patients on their current health

status; effective health promotion strategies; medication

effects, interactions, and side effects; pre and post

procedural care; safe and effective home care; warning

signs of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure

exacerbation, as well as how and when to seek care if

these symptoms occur.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Capitol City Big Band

Principal Bass Trombonist, May 2009-present

The Capitol City Big Band is a 19 member jazz ensemble

located in Columbia. We are comprised of professional

and semi-professional musicians who willingly donate

their time and talent to play jazz at retirement homes

and charity events to raise money for organizations

such as Meals on Wheels and Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Tour De Cure

May 5, 2012 & May 4, 2013

In an effort to decrease the enormous health care

burden diabetes places on the American health care

system, I bicycled 100 miles to raise money for the

American Diabetes Association (ADA). Monies raised each

year are used to fund research that will hopefully

assist the ADA in finding a "cure" for diabetes. I plan

to participate annually.
